The platform Oléchain, which held the first Blockchain / Journalism meeting at Medialab Prado last January in Madrid, has launched the Blockchain Observatory to facilitate this innovation’s convergence in all industries and boost this technology in the media. The objective is to promote the creation of collaborative networks for their development and application in society as well as the economy. Blockchain is an accounting book of digital events shared among millions of connected computers in the world, with the ability to transfer and store confidential information in a secure, permanent and anonymous space. The Observatory emerges as a meeting point between people, companies and public and private entities interested in this technology or working with it. It is born with 21 names, among which are companies already consolidated, autonomous administrations, European organizations, public and private enterprises or companies of recent creation that already work with blockchain Thus, it starts from the hand of Smart Catalonia, coordinated from the Secretary of Telecommunications, Cybersecurity and Digital Society of the Department of Presidency of the Generalitat de Catalunya; Of the European Center for Press Freedom, chaired by the journalist Henrik Kaufholz; Of the Department of Sociology of UNED; Tecnalia, the first private center for applied research and technological development in Spain and one of the main centers in Europe, based in the Basque Country; Roca Junyent Law Firm, Everis Business Multinational Consulting Firm, and Grant Thornton, Audit, Legal, and Financial Advisory, Legal and Financial Advisory Services Company. In fintech, Circle’s payments app is transforming the global economy, allowing users to share payments instantly for free and using their bank accounts. It is a multiplatform system of smart contracts to share contents one hundred percent P2P. It is intended for journalists, bloggers or any creative content producer. Yours is a Blockchain communication medium created by American physicist and mathematician Ray Charles. Users can write articles accompanied by videos, images and audio and fix a price on their wall. CriptoNoticias is the newspaper founded and directed by the Venezuelan engineer Héctor Cárdenas. Today it is the Spanish reference medium for cryptoactives and blockchain technology. NodalBlock is a Spanish company. Its creators define it as a multisectoral computing tool that allows blockchain use in an easy and intuitive way. It offers the use of smart contracts for different types of commercial transactions, “notarize” private documents, encrypt communications from the computer or develop digital identity projects. Leon Blockchain HUB is an initiative that seeks to make the city of Leon a pole of knowledge in blockchain. Ideas For Change, the platform created by Javier Creus, is developing a blockchain project on the collective management of health data by citizens. The promoters of this initiative, the journalists Úrsula O’Kuinghttons and Covadonga Fernández are convinced of the need for journalism to converge with the rest of industries and the relevant role that Blockchain will play in transforming the structures of Media and in the exercise of the journalistic profession. The project has been joined by Guillermo Callejo, creator of the Blockchain Meetup at Bath University of Economics. The Blockchain Observatory is born with the aim to facilitate the exchange of experiences and to follow up the transformations that this technology generates in our economy and our lives.
