BORA Progress Update

in blockchain •  6 years ago  (edited)

During the last decade, the Internet has experienced tremendous growth. Especially social networks, games, entertainment and communication (e.g. WhatsApp or Telegram) are so integrated with our daily lives, that it is almost impossible to conceive a world without them. However, this growth has also led to the problem that all the information on the Internet is becoming convoluted and questionably unsafe. Because of this exponential growth the Internet industry is now facing a number of vital pain points that needs to be solved. Nowadays, it has become very difficult to assess the reliability, authenticity and transparency of the information available on the Internet.

Introducing BORA

To address the abovementioned pain points BORA intends to lever the power of blockchain technology to build a decentralized platform that is able to reorganize existing centralized systems into a distributed network of computers. BORA’s infrastructure, coupled with the appropriate business mechanisms and data storage, can provide end-users with authentic, more reliable and transparent data. In addition, BORA aims to make blockchain technology more understandable and user-friendly for content providers. Currently, many content creators stumble on barriers to enter the blockchain space. For instance, high development costs and a lack of technical understanding results in millions of content providers to miss out on the many benefits that blockchain technology can provide.

The BORA project consists of four major services, which I have discussed in more detail in my previous article that you can read here. These four services are: BORA Island, BORA Atoll, BORA Lagoon, and BORA Explorer.

Progress update
A couple of weeks ago, BORA launched their testnet called BORA Lagoon. At the moment BORA Lagoon is undergoing thorough testing by BORA’s developers and partners. If you want to try your hands at BORA Lagoon yourself, then go ahead and register a test account at: https://testnet.bora-lagoon.com/portal/.

Also during Q4 of 2018, the BORA team will launch their back office beta and will be building the infrastructure for several different services. This beta version will be just a demo, which allows users to get a first look at BORA’s ecosystem. The team will be busy doing research and further improving upon the platform’s user experience and user interface as well as the platform’s interoperability.

In Q2 2019, BORA is planning to launch its mainnet called BORA Island. BORA Island will be a scalable high-performance platform that adopts a side chain infrastructure, based on the Ethereum network. The BORA Island platform enables users to experience various digital content and play videogames within the BORA ecosystem. Users can also access various services such as: managing their BORA wallet and managing/exchanging their tokens. Ultimately, BORA Island will be platform that is easy to user and facilitates content creators to easily share their content in return for fair compensation of their work.

During Q3 2019, BORA is planning to release the mobile version of the BORA platform. This will also be an important milestone, since mainstream adoption is highly determined by the accessibility of the platform; and we all know that bringing the platform to mobile device can really ignite the number of users. During this period, the BORA team will also release updates to the BORA development toolkit and start-up their incentive program.

The current roadmap ends in Q2 2020 with the planned launch of BORA Ecosystem 3.0 and will version will incorporate the complete set of features that are planned for the BORA ecosystem. Although Q2 2020, may still be a long time away, you can already try out the BORA Lagoon (testnet) for yourself at: https://testnet.bora-lagoon.com/portal/, or follow the team’s progression on the BORA project GitHub page: https://github.com/boraecosystem
