Decentralised internet 3.0: a comparison

in blockchain •  7 years ago

I have just read this article on the Blockchain internet 3.0 by Matteo Gianpietro Zago

And I have been a real fan of the decentralised world and the blockchain since it "clicked in my head" last year.
Like most people I did not get it right away. The whole revolutionary aspect of it takes a little while just to sink in.

But once it did I was a convert.

I started reading all I could find online even the fud and the fomo but slowly my knowledge built up. If you look at this timeline below, we are just in the beginning and we should all be very aware of this. Not taking advantage of this would be a big waste. Will there be a lot of projects that fail, yes of course. The majority of the 1800ish coins out there will not make it but some of them will.

Blockchain is here to stay

Now up till now this has been a little abstract and I do look at coinmarketcap regularly and read up on loads of ICO's and new projects in order to see what is going on. But seeing the chart below (available from the article mentioned in the beginning) made it so much more real.

And all these centralised giants have a reason to be fearful or at least they will be. I do think that for the moment we are to insignificant in their eyes and nothing more then a nuisance. Hopefully this will stay like this for a little while longer until it is really to late and a lot of these project have settled into their place and are slowly taking over.

Now the Blockchain as a concept is really revolutionary and is what it is all about. A lot of companies are now slapping blockchains on things that do not need them but this is just due to the fact that a lot of people are also throwing silly money at them. (guess you can't blame them)

There are now thousands of coins but on the comparison above are the most famous and the ones with widespread practical use cases. (no dental coins in there)
And as you can see there is not really one big centralised internet 2.0 giant that has been forgotten.

As the bans/censuring from facebook, google, youtube and the like will get more widespread more and more people will find their way to these new wonderful censureless platforms. In the beginning because they want to get away from all the control and adds but after a while because of the fact that their friends are there.

We are still pioneers now

But this is slowly changing, the way has been paved and its getting more traffic. The picture above gave me a second "click in the head". I am a believer but I really had no idea that there were so many things going on and I really do spend a lot of time looking through different projects.

This is a bit like the gold rush, but we are now the ones that will be selling shovels and booze to the gold diggers instead of getting dirty day in and day out trying to find that little nugget. There are some advantages to being a pioneer. Huge fortunes will be built now just like they were back then.

I know I would rather be the pioneer then the gold digger and I do feel like this will be the case for all the people that are involved now and have also gotten that click

  • Did you know all of these projects?
  • do you own any of these coins?
  • will the centralised giants wage a war or not?
