Lunyr - The World's Crowd-Sourced Encyclopedia

in blockchain •  5 years ago  (edited)

Introduction

Gone are the days, when we used to visit the library all the time to access information. And I remember I would always be peaking through the various Encyclopedias on the shelves. These encyclopedias had great histories and things I never knew of, so I would always be at the library when there was no teacher around just to continue the vast knowledge in them. Many used to say, encyclopedias had everything one wanted to know.

During that time I knew we had something called internet but never knew google and all other search engines, so one day our Information Communication Technology (ICT) teacher gave us an assignment and had no choice but to use the school’s café for the first time.

Quickly I just typed encyclopedia in the URL and it took me to a search button, I asked the very question my ICT teacher gave and had what I was looking for. Since that day, I only used encyclopedia for my search.

The introduction of blockchain technology has now given life to a peer to peer crowd-sourced Encyclopedia platform that pays you for your content and your contributions. Lunyr is the name.

What is Lunyr?

Lunyr is a decentralized crowd-sourced encyclopedia backed by Ethereum blockchain, and the platform rewards you with tokens for peer reviewing and contributing information. This platform was foundered by Arnold Pham, a co-founder of Leandigest Inc., a Silicon Valley based tech startup. Lunyr aims at being the first place one visits over the internet when it comes to finding simple, reliable, and accurate information.

On Lunyr you are rewarded with app tokens called LUN, and these LUN tokens are being rewarded to you for your Contribution (CBN) and Honor (HNR) on the platform. Your contributions (CBN) are the contents you create on the platform to gain rewards from other users (reviewers). So here other users will review every content you publish and award you with a score they think your content worth. Over a period of two weeks, the score given by reviewers on your contribution (CBN) will be used to calculate how many LUN you will be awarded. On lunyr, you are at liberty to convert your CBN to LUN tokens or trade them for other cryptocurrencies. Honor (HNR) simply means the peer-to-peer review you perform on other users articles as a reviewer and the contribution you add up to their information that has been submitted.

You can download Lunyr on your Mac OS X (.dmg) here, Windows here, and Linux here to enjoy a whole new world of crowd-sourced knowledge base.

Problems With Other Crowd-Sourced Knowledge Bases

Other crowd-sourced knowledge bases such as Wikipedia face the problem of a centralized system, inaccuracy, and censorship

Centralized System
Other crowd-sourced knowledge base has centralized systems that control the entire system, individuals are to note that these organizations will never abuse their power by presenting you with their self -serving agendas. They will manipulate the system all the time. They keep making users not to access information when they feel they are not treated well. I learned Wikipedia once shut down for a day just to protest against internet piracy law which is very bad.

Inaccuracy
Inaccuracy here refers to the power been given to anyone with an internet connection to edit someone’s article(s). This means that one could provide false information for an article presented by other users.

Censorship
Government has control over these crowd-sourced knowledge bases and restricts citizens to what they are to search about and what they are not to search about. Citizens do not have the freedom to read or know more about what they like.

Thank you for your contribution.

The seems like another nice project to try. However, the project repository has gotten no update in eight months. According to Utopian guidelines: Contributions to repositories that have not received any program code updates for longer than 6 months, will not be eligible for potential reward.

Nonetheless, I have some tips for you, where I think you could do better.

First, in terms of information, the post could be more detailed. Lunyr is a wide project, and there should be more to say about it. I suggest you make your future reviews more extensive with valuable information.

Also, the post had many grammars and style issues. I would advise you to use Grammarly and Hemingway to check for issues in your texts.

Thanks!
