We are excited to announce our new chief of Eunomia Foundation joining our Team — Stephen Norris.
Mr. Norris was co-founder in 1987 The Carlyle Group, a global private equity and investment firm with offices around the world. He was a Managing Director of Carlyle and and served on the Boards of Directors of numerous Carlyle portfolio companies. Mr. Norris developed the Carlyle investment strategy along with Mr. David Rubenstein, and together they recruited the Carlyle senior partners. Prior to Carlyle, Mr. Norris was a Corporate Vice President of The Marriott Corporation, where he was a strategist and advisor for the company’s public and private financing, acquisitions and limited partnerships. Mr. Norris was also head of the Marriott Tax department overseeing about 200 people.
Mr. Norris possesses substantial experience in financing, providing strategic business advice to portfolio companies, analyzing and investing in public and private companies as well as having served on the board of directors of numerous companies. While at Carlyle and thereafter, Mr. Norris has made, directed or participated in leveraged buyouts, venture capital investments, real estate (including hotels, office, multi-family, storage and warehousing) and private equity investments totaling more than $10.0 billion, and yielding an average annual internal rate of return (IRR) well over 38%.
Since leaving Carlyle, through Norris Partners, Mr. Norris has been a principal advisor and investor in numerous transactions and investments in Europe and the United States, in many cases working with investors from the MENA. He has also served (and currently serves) on the board of directors of various private corporations. Mr. Norris has served as a financial advisor to the Kingdom of Morocco, and currently is a financial advisor to OCP, a major Moroccan corporation; some years ago, he served as a financial advisor to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its military offset program. Mr. Norris also advised a Fund with investors from the Middle East investing in Frontier markets with a principal focus in Africa.
Mr. Norris now serves Advisor to the Royal Court in Saudi Arabia.
Mr. Norris was appointed by president Bush and confirmed by the U.S. Senate and served as one of the five governing members of the Federal Retirement System-Thrift Investment Board. Mr. Norris also served as law clerk on the US Tax Court.
