When we touch a topic about blockchain, we automatically associate it with cryptocurrencies and bitcoin, however, blockchain technology goes further, and can be used in other fields effectively, in this case in a distribution chain food.

Currently to achieve the monitoring and control of food quality, methods such as traceability are used (it is a procedure that allows to know the history, the location and the trajectory of the product), the negative in this method is when it is necessary to detect the origin of the problem, because this represents great losses in food lots and in management expenses.

To solve this, Walmart through a software called Food Trust developed by the company IBM and works with Blockchain, the company will require its food distributors to use this software to replace the old method of traceability and thus can reduce the time to detect the source of a problem in food.

What Walmart wants to achieve with this is to digitize the entire process through the use of a chain of private blocks, which will allow you to track everything from the production of the food to the distribution in your stores.

Walmart will have access in real time to the condition of each product.

This will bring benefits to customers, since in case there are contaminated foods, these can be detected quickly through the use of blockchain and will be limited to the customer.
