The Reform Research Center recommends that the British government review the system of citizen identification.
Experts propose to create a platform accessible to citizens on the basis of a detachment, which will help to identify a person with the help of biometrics. The British authorities have already developed their online identification system, but so far the implementation process is slow.
Experts of the Reform Research Center published a report describing the advantages of the block system of citizen identification. According to the authors, a single online platform will reduce bureaucracy and transfer personal data from the hands of the state to the hands of the people themselves.
Reform proposes to develop a mobile application and a website that all citizens of the United Kingdom would have access to. Through a special program, the British will give the state access to their personal information for identification.
To increase security, analysts are suggested to additionally add biometric identification by fingerprint or face. The resulting system will be a substitute for passports, and citizens will be able to verify their identity using a smartphone.
The British authorities tried to create their own online identification system Verify, but so far it is not used in the country. Reform believes that the development will not be widely used, because through it you can not be identified in all cases.
Today, different departments have different and sometimes conflicting identities. The block-platform will become a kind of additional layer over the existing databases. It will allow transferring personal information to the citizens themselves.
The blockchain-based identification system is planned to be introduced in Canada. Since 2018, Canadians will be able to verify through it their identity on the websites of banks, government services and mobile operators. Switzerland also intends to introduce a single digital identification of citizens.
