tl;dr: an NFT promotion for CryptoKitties reminds us of the immense, yet still unrealized potential, of an entirely new asset class.
Here’s a neat little promotion that the CryptoKitties guys are putting out.
It’s called NFTme.
NFT is a non-fungible token and it was CryptoKitties that basically invented this entire industry last year.
Non-fungible means that each token is different from each other.
So, a dollar bill, for example is fungible. Yours and mine are perfectly interchangeable.
A dollar bill that has Michael Jackson’s signature on it is non-fungible. It’s unlike any other.
What CryptoKitties did is to make it so that provably scarce digital assets (Bitcoin being the original one since there will only ever be 21 million) could be provably unique.
In other words, we all know that this is the ONLY token of its kind in the world.
Each CryptoKitty is provably unique.
Many people (and I am one of them) believe that the NFT asset class is going to be one of the big, primary use cases for blockchain adoption.
We’ll see.
But, for now, you can go play CryptoKitties (you’ll need MetaMask)…or you can hope to win the contest and get your own Kitty, based on you.
Either way, I think it’s fun and cute.
