PLDT joined Carrier Blockchain Study Group (CBSG)

The Carrier Blockchain Study Group (CBSG), the global blockchain consortium of telecom carriers, has unveiled its new operator partners.

• South Korea-based LG Uplus Corp

• UAE-based Etisalat Group

• South Korea-based KT Corporation

• Spain’s Telefónica S.A

and most especially the...

• Philippines-based PLDT Inc,..

have agreed to jointly explore how to collaborate on building a next-generation global cross-carrier blockchain platform and ecosystem.

CBSG aims to provide members and their customers various services such as secured clearing and settlement, personal authentication, internet of things applications and other services using BLOCKCHAIN technology.

On the other hand, the question is, will it work for PLDT?

PLDT is the largest telecom in the Philippines – comprising home broadband and mobile. It’s rival, Globe Telecom has a larger share in the mobile market. Both companies have a virtual control in the country’s telco operations.

But...

The slow internet connection in the Philippines is one of the major problems of the Filipino people. Most of our countrymen were already complaining regarding the slow internet connectivity and urging the local government to immediately resolve this issue.

So, In my personal opinion, PLDT company must commit their focus to make the internet speed fast to all parts of the philippines first before they access new types of innovation in blockchain, this is one of the reason why the new government of the Philippines acquiring new telecommunication company to be apply here in the Philippines.

Until then, we never know if PLDT will last long in the hands of the government of the Philippines, we rest assure that Blockchain tries to help people to adopt different kinds of interest like in telecommunication.

In the end, the consortium said that the with the new participants (of which PLDT is included), they are now in a position to lead the blockchain adoption among telecom carriers around the world.

The CBSG can provide telco participants with services that will run on blockchain technology. This includes personal authentication and roaming charge settlements.
