What you need to know about Wispr & FAQ
Thank you for reading our first blog post on Medium! Wispr will launch soon and this blog post contains everything that you need to know. What exactly is Wispr, and what will Wispr offer? Furthermore, you will find some more info about the upcoming swap, where you will be able to trade your ESP2 for WSP.
Secure Messaging
Wispr offers a peer-to-peer messaging service which completely eliminates the risk of third parties breaching your personal privacy. No longer will corporate entities be able to check what you are sending to your friends nor will they be able to sell your personal data to other parties.

Blockchain Technology:

By using our Wispr Blockchain we provide a completely decentralized service, avoiding all the deficiencies associated with centralization: downtime, security breaches, zero anonymity/privacy.
Passive Income
Wispr’s Proof-of-Stake algorithms gives anyone the chance to generate passive income. All you need is our wallet! Wispr will give you an annual 25% return on your initial investment. Our aim is to make staking as cheap as possible so anyone can join in and help us secure the network. In the future you will be able to stake using a Raspberry Pi in order to make staking as efficient as possible.
Problems with current messaging services and how the Wispr blockchain will solve these problems
In this current day and age, with the threat of governments and hackers trying everything they can to reduce your online privacy, Wispr is the solution to your encrypted messaging needs. We aim to create one of the most secure and decentralized means of communication, completely bypassing any snooping entities. By using blockchain technology, Wispr will provide a lightning fast, decentralized network to deliver any message to anyone around the globe, without companies or governments reading along with you.
Privacy: WhatsApp is the world’s largest messaging service, with roughly 1 billion daily active users, together sending over 55 billion messages per day. All popular online messaging services are provided by third parties, meaning that there always is a potential risk of privacy invasion. Facebook bought WhatsApp in 2014 and since August 2016 they have actively used the data of their users to enhance their online advertising algorithms. It is a fact that commercial entities will use personal data for monetization. However, Edward Snowden showed the world that governments are as big of a threat to your online data as commercial entities are. Blockchain technology has the ability to prevent all of this from happening and the public is slowly picking up on it.

Censorship:

Two-thirds of the world’s internet users live under regimes of government censorship, according to a report from Freedom House. Freedom House, a pro-democracy think tank, finds that internet freedom across the globe declined for a sixth consecutive year in 2016, as governments cracked down on social media services and messaging apps.
2016 saw a notable crackdown on secure messaging apps such as WhatsApp and Telegram. WhatsApp was blocked or restricted in 12 countries over the course of the year — more than any other messaging app — including in Bahrain, Bangladesh, and Ethiopia, where authorities blocked it in response to civilian protests. Telegram faced restrictions in four countries including China, where the government blocked the encrypted messaging service due to its rising popularity among human rights lawyers.
With our decentralized network governments around the world are unable to block users from using the Wispr messaging service. We offer full anonymity on our protocol, thus enabling even political opponents or human rights lawyers to safely send messages, without a chance on a government crackdown.
All of the above is in clear violation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations General Assembly. Article 19 of this declaration states:
Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.
We at Wispr believe in this declaration, and by offering people around the world our services, we aim to give people back this fundamental right!

Passive income:

WSP will be a Proof-of-Stake coin (PoS). This means that the circulating supply will increase with a fixed percentage every year. These payouts will be distributed to all holding WSP and have a node (wallet) or a masternode online. The main advantages of PoS against PoW (Proof-of-Work) are:
 — Nodes are incentivized to stay online due to constant staking
 — Energy efficient (Most PoW mining algorithms are resource heavy)
 — Earning potential to all holders

We plan to offer extensive support for the Raspberry Pi, a series of small single-board computers developed in the United Kingdom by the Raspberry Pi Foundation. This mini computer is very energy efficient and cheap which is very useful when you are planning to stake your WSP. At the moment the RPi is mostly used by people with technological knowledge, but our goal is to make it accessible to everyone.
Wallets
Wispr will offer several types of wallet. Each installation will have its own tutorial on how to install and use the wallet safely. As we approach the swap date, more information will be provided here.

FAQ

Wispr
What is Wispr?
Wispr is a peer-to-peer, open source cryptocurrency. Wispr uses a proof-of-stake system and aims to provide secure and private messaging.
Why did you start Wispr?
Wispr was born out of dissatisfaction with the development of ESP2. While chatting with other members of the community about the slow/no progress we agreed to form a team to actually work out what was promised to us for months and developing it even further.
Are you affiliated with Espers?
Wispr is in no way affiliated with ESP2 or its team. Wispr will follow its own progressive path.
What is Wispr’s mission?
Our primary focus is launching our blockchain with our first product being a decentralized messenger application.
Our mission is to provide a private and secure messaging application using blockchain technology so that no corporate entities or governments can get a hold of your personal data.
What will be the use case of the WSP coin?
Beside being able to stake your coins or running a masternode you need to hold a small amount of WSP to use the decentralized messenger application. This is to prevent potential spam on our network.

Swap

When will the swap take place?
Swap will start in the last two weeks of December 2017 and will run for approximately 30 days to give every ESP2 holder enough time to swap for WSP. The final date and all the details on how to swap will be released at a later stage.
What will be the swap rate?
The swap rate is still unknown but our aim is to significantly reduce the total supply.
Will you accept other currencies besides ESP2?
Although the swap details are not fully worked out yet, we are thinking about only accepting ESP2 during the first few weeks. If there is any WSP left of the premine we might open up the sales for BTC as well. Final details will be published at a later stage.
Why not do a snapshot of ESP2 and airdrop Wispr?
We have multiple reasons for doing a swap. First off all, we want to exclude the Espers team from our project. The top 50 accounts on ESP2 rich list currently possess more than 55% of all ESP2 in circulation, of which we believe for a large part is in hands of the ESP2 team.
Second of all, we only want people to participate in our project because they believe in our future. This will create a more stable price in the future and prevents a massive dump once we go live.
What will you do with all the raised ESP2?
We will put them on an account and start staking. At the moment we have secured enough funding for the startup phase, but in the future we might decide to sell some of the ESP2 raised with the swap to fund the development of Wispr.
What is the distribution of Wispr?
Not set in stone yet, but we will reserve a maximum of 5–10% of the premine for the team, bounties, faucets and as funds for future developments. The rest of the premine will be distributed to the people who swap their ESP2 for WSP.

Technical

What platform will Wispr be based on?
The source-code of Wispr is forked from Blackcoin, a fork from the original Bitcoin.
Why Blackcoin?
Our best bet to start off quickly and on the right path was to fork from Blackcoin, since it was the first PoS coin, and now with PoS 3.0 it’s still one of the best PoS coin to this date; forking Blackcoin for these reasons was almost a no-brainer.
What products will you deliver?
First of all, we will deliver a private and secure blockchain messaging application. This is our main priority for now and after that we will start focusing on long-term products.
What will your roadmap look like?
The roadmap will be released on the 10th of December 2017, prior to the swap.
