My LAST Youtube Video? πŸ“· ~ FREEING My Subscribers! You don't have to be held hostage anymore!

in blockchain β€’Β  7 years agoΒ  (edited)

The Freedom of the Blockchain

That's what Youtube does. Facebook does the same thing. You work really hard to produce good content and win over your audience. Your viewer decides to reward you with the most precious gift they can give, a click on your "subscribe" button.

But then, Youtube decides to hold your new sub hostage and only show them your content when the algorithm THINKS they will like it. The rest of the time, Youtube pummels your new subscriber with network programming or only content it deems worthy of viewing.

Do you hear that sound? It's the sound of a giant sucking vacuum that is being created by the rising anger of creators not able to reach their audience unless they use click bait titles and thumbnails and never stray from the politically correct guidelines set by Youtube. It's the sound of boiling frustration on Youtube and Facebook by authors and developers who can't access their fans unless they pay fees.

Steemit LogoIT'S BOILING INTO STEEM!Steemit Logo

And its rising...up and up so high that many are seeing this cloud of hot freedom and running toward it.

I'm just a small Youtube channel with 46,000 subs compared to many others on Youtube. But I love the promise of the blockchain and what it can mean for creators of good content. I'm excited to hopefully be a part of the SteemQ ( @furion ) launch when it happens.

Nature abhors a vacuum. It will fill it. What will fill this particular vacuum? We will have to wait and see but I'm placing my bets on STEEM!

Very excellent video! The power of the resteem? Let's try that.

You've made a lot of good points, and I was blessed watching it. I'll be up on Monday, you can private message me in https://steemit.chat or I'll just shoot you my phone number in a private wallet message.

Let's plan on a few fun projects to create a little content together too!

Good to hear, and thanks for the support. Looks like @mericanhomestead and @papa-pepper will be meeting uo next week, so that could produce some great content too.

thnx papa-pepper is found this post through following you here - i am keen to move all my followers over here too

Wow! Thanks sounds like a good idea. As far as options online right now, I think that steemit is the best one, so why not tell others about it?

i shared about steemit on facebook tonight and i hope a few will start following me into here -- glad to be here myself too

Yeah I think we can come up with all kinds of ideas. I got to go out and do a video this morning but will be back later and will message you on the chat. THANKS!

how do you do a private wallet message?

Put a # before the text.

Seems like all other social media platforms will soon be wondering where everyone is at! #Steemit!

You Tube--Another example of greed and what happens when you make changes for personal gain while not taking into account what and who made you who you are. I used to work for a company that always made changes just for the sake of change. Sometimes people are ok with it and sometimes not. I'm glad to see people standing up for their rights and personal freedoms. More people need to join the fight to keep personal content alive. Great video as always. Thanks!

Thanks! The market will decide what will work and what will not. People love freedom and will eventually realize when someone is placing constraints on them.

It's astounding to see the increasing influx of YouTubers onto the Steem platform... Looks like a lot of the smart money is headed here. Congratulations on finding the courage to make this move.

Thanks for the congrats! Really excited to begin making the move. Lots of potential here.

Agreed! Thanks for being a pioneer on here and in so many other ways. Love your videos and I will be following your suggested leads on here too!

Well said!

raincountry. Just checked out your site and like your content. Going to follow you.

Thank you!

Spot on, 100%! We're cross-posting between various platforms for now, but when SteemQ launches (ahem, @steemq ), we may just post there exclusively.

I'm totally there with you! I will cross platform post until I can post exclusively at SteemQ

Any news on when this is supposed to happen? Not sure I really want to get our channel started on youtube if I'm just going to turn around and move to steemq

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

This was your best video yet, I new fan... Followed :)

THANK YOU!

Thank-you for promoting Steemit more!
You are doing a great job and I hope that more people listen to your advise to move on over here.
We need more people like you.

Thank you canadian-coconut! Getting ready to head over to your page and read your latest post.

Cool video! Just one thing, you should say those who buy crypto are looser because it's not true. Those who buy will do a lot more money than those who only earn through blogging. Plus if they lose money it means your crypto are going down in value and that's not a good thing. All in all good video. I gave you an upvote.

Yeah totally right. I guess a lot of people view crypto as more of a gambling chip at a casino rather than actual currency you can buy groceries with. I guess what I'm trying to say when something is earned, it has more of an intrinsic value than something that is simply bought. Does that make sense?

I agree. That make sense. That's clearly the perception of people.

Woo! I just signed up & getting going on Steemit. Thanks @mericanhomestead for sharing this! I have never been on the front lines of technology so to be part of something like this as it's growing and gaining steem is really cool!

Welcome aboard the steem train! Glad to have you here!

In my years of service I've learned a few things on how succeed, survive and eventually lead. The first is in a new situation or environment find the self made leader and shadow them till you learn. I've watched you on the tube for years and followed you here.
I would stand beside you brother.
BTW years on the tube I've only made three replies total . Weeks on Steem and this is the first .

Outstanding! Thanks for the vote of confidence. It means a lot.

It was because of you that I started on Steemit. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us. Of course I'm following and upvoting you, you're one of my favorites!

Happy to help and I'm glad you are here! You are appreciated!

i am moving over too and will be leaving youtube -- i havent made a new post there for years since they ripped me off for my advertising income --anyway nice to meet you and i am now following you and upvoted you here and now .. all the best -David

I totally understand. I see how messed up YT is becoming. Some of the creators don't care and will take their licks as long as a few crumbs get tossed their way. Not me. I won't be censured!

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

Blockchain technology, in general, will give a lot of these corporations a run for their money. No longer do we, the people, need to bow down to their self-serving rules in order for us to thrive. We, artists, content creators, now have a way to directly affect our audience without an "overseer" deciding who, when, where, and why. This is the new generation! The blockchain revolution!

ITS EXCITING!! Thanks for stopping by!

Whole heartedly agree. People are getting sick of being lured in with the promise of usage of the platform free of charge while the mean time being dominated! We tend to give so much away for the ease of use and the free services, if anyone bothered to read the user agreement I wonder how many would join!

There's a great book about this matter called "Program or be programmed" which I can recommend to all. Good luck m8!

I refuse to be programmed. YT doesn't or didn't realize what made them popular. They have turned into what the people hated. There is no guarantee that they will still be here in 5 years. (MYSPACE)

I think it is important to let the viewers know that they will also earn from this platform. In my case I plan to use some of my earnings to exchange for Bitcoin and buy a few preps online and our viewers can do the same.

Thats a good idea to show your viewers what you are buying with your steem. It makes it more real.

Thanks for the great intro into Steem! Not sure I've got my head around all this yet but it sure looks interesting! Thanks again!

It takes time for sure to gain understanding. But learning new things is challenging and fun!

My main reasion for joining was to continue to see the on goings on the homestead since you may no longer post to youtub.
I am not tech savy so I find this site very hard to use. But after 6 hours I finnaly figured out how to find your page, lol.

Learning something new takes time indeed but the rewards will pay off. Hey look! You just earned 0.03 for your comment. When did facebook or Youtube creators ever pay you for commenting? :) Thanks for coming over!

Great post. I've followed you over from YouTube. Hope they get something up for live stream. Then you guys can move the Homestead Network over here. Thanks for all your videos and podcasts.

Really appreciate it! Start posting and sharing! I just gave you 0.03 for the comment. YT or FB never did that. :)

TY :)

Thank you for sharing about Steemit on your YT channel. I joined today because of it and am learning what it is and how to use it....like writing my intro (which I am doing now.) I love your content on YT but am also frustrated by the restraints and atmosphere that it fosters.

Thanks for coming! And you just earned your first 0.03! Congrats!

Sorry you've been having trouble on YouTube. Once I click the bell notification symbol, I seem to be getting videos from all the channels I subscribe to. That said, Steemit is a great place and I hope they will offer YouTube a real challenge for personal content. That's what makes YouTube so nice - the personal connections.

Nothing wrong with a little healthy competition. To be honest, i think youtube will join myspace in a couple years.

It will be interesting to see. Right now, it's the second largest search engine after Google. So we will see change, at the very least!

Great video, greed and intolerance is taking over at You Tube

Great video Zac. It's videos like yours and pappa peppers that help us with the blockchain learning curve. It's great to see the little guys use technology against the big guys. They spy on us, censor us, brainwash us but there are a lot of smart people out there that have good motives. Blockchain may be our savior against central banks, governments and big corporations. It gives us some hope in this matrix we live in.

I don't know this guys story, but he was downvoted into oblivion for a seemingly innocent post.
https://steemit.com/prayer/@noganoo/jesus-loves-me-this-i-know

You know you're an optimist when you're watching the video and every time Zac starts mentioning names you're waiting to hear him say yours lol
I must work harder for senpai to notice me... :P

LOL! I get you next time!

Hilarious!

Welcome to the digital revolution!

Yep YT can be a pain in the butt thats for sure...anyway keep on steeming brother.

The nice thing is that I know how to make this pain....go away. :)

Standing up and and taken it like a man...yep..
I would expect nothing less from you mate.
You got the metal, the heart and your liven the dream.

Don't give up on YouTube. Steemit is a great thing but YouTube has the power of magnitude right now. YouTube isn't all bad.

Thanks Brain, I will cross post for a while. But many of my videos are not even being shown to my subs anymore. If I do get one that goes viral, YT caps it at 100k views. Makes me angry.

I can understand a 100% why you would be upset for sure. Since 2008 I have been upset on and off about different things that happen with YouTube but really when it comes down to it I don't believe it will go away. It is still the future and next year there will be more people watching YouTube videos than there were this year. That trend will continue.
Steemit is a great addition to what you guys are doing but in my opinion don't abandon either platform and also be on the lookout for other platforms where you can get paid to share your knowledge and your life style.
The YouTubers who won't survive are the ones who put all their eggs in one basket. You are doing the right thing by building a following and a community over here but just realize that 5 months ago those of us that had put in a massive amount of time on this platform were on suicide watch. It was worse here than the AdPocalypse. But changes were made and suddenly it came back to life. There will be ups and downs. Neither YouTube or Steemit are going to be the end all be all.
Keep sharing! We are glad to have you here!

Empires rise and fall. Once upon a time, Myspace was never gonna end. LOL

That is very true but the resources required to host all the video that YouTube has is a bar set so high that it would take billion dollar + companies to attempt to overtake it.
Doing a service that is block chain based where people give up bandwidth / store space to host other people's stuff is pretty intensive as well. In the future 10 years from now maybe but right now it is so much data to push with our current Internet connections...etc.

Not everyone has to be a seed in a p2p network. But those with fast connections on fiber in the city, they will benefit the community the most as it grows. That is totally doable.

It will cost one way or another. Google has taken an overall loss on YouTube and it was a very long term play. Individuals will need to be compensated to harness the burden of the network. And when people are uploading 250GB 4K files...... eeeeekkkkkk
It is doable..... but it won't be easy.

I love that you Zac are being the change needed.

Glad to see you made it WeeTree!

been here since day 1 of your posting ;-)

Great

We're here because of your videos! Excited to learn and adapt to this new platform. Thanks for reporting from the "top deck."

Love it brother. This is Yankey4 from Youtube. Thanks for the killer info about this place. Now I am posting my videos here as well. As soon as we can pst videos to just here I will be doing that. God Bless.

I found Steem because of this video. Now I've started posting my stuff here. Thanks for the heads up I was wondering where to go after the Youtube apocalypse.

Nice

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

Followed you on utube and will do so here, great video.

THANKS!!

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

Spot on! Keep encouraging the YT homesteaders to move here. I know it is hard for the smaller channels as all this crypto-stuff is new (to us), but just get started and learn as you go.

I am glad you came over to Steem.

I can't wait for steemq! I have a tiny channel on YT, but I work hard on my videos and there's so much more to come. I don't feel like YT feels us little guys have any value. That's depressing

share always great unique stuff

Exellent post!!!!!! very informative:)
Thanks for sharing :)

You got me on Steemit with this video

Great Video

Thanks for watching!

People are waking up

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

Here is the thing Zach. I've appreciated Steemit so far (Thanks for getting me into it). But it seems like a successful post here is even more haphazard than youtube. I also feel like the discoverability of content is a bit difficult. What made youtube great and what immediately impressed me about it in 2006 was the ability to suggest relevant material. Posts here also seem to have a very limited shelf-life, so for those of us who want to make quality evergreen content it is a challenge. I've noticed it is better to do short picture based posts than try to do in depth stuff because unless it is voted by a whale it won't go anywhere. I also wander about the quality of viewership here since there is also a frenzy to vote to get rewards that it seems it may foster a culture of disposability worse than facebook.

I'm assuming the video version of steemit (steem q) will be slightly different

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

hopefully so. If they are able to replicate the original youtube suggestions/ search and have the technical part under control, I'm in.

Yeah I think the search abilities will expand in the future. This is modeled heavily after a reddit layout I think and a lot of people are not familiar with that.

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

And that is why I hate reddit and the type of content and atmosphere it fosters.

You are not the only one.

It would be nice to have it resemble something I'm already familiar with but we will see. They have to be able to merge it with the currency as well

This is an outstanding video! I first watched it over on the platform that shall not be named ;) And as you can see, here I am getting my feet wet in this new world of blockchain, bitcoin, and...cryptocurrency? What does that even mean?? I'm about to dive in head first and find out!

I have been a subscriber of yours on YT for years and am now following you here.

Thank you sir. I went to steemit after your podcast a couple weeks ago. Its slow starting and confusing. In an effort to understand it all I did find Papa Pepper. Ill have to check out Craig Grant. Thanks for your input and I hope to continue to learn and grow on steemit

Yeah, check out those pages, they will give you a good understanding of steemit, the blockchain and crypto. And I think they are fun to watch!

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

The demostration that greed never took anyone anywhere.

Loved this! Thank you Zac, shared and resteemed!

So frustrated with youtube and though I will still use it for the time being, steemit is now my favorite platform!

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

they took the you out of you tube! Great point!

Very well said my friend! It's frustrating how the algorithm is constantly changing to suit their needs & best interests...for example, a few years ago they said the most important factor in succeeding is audience retention. Now it's a huge number of things like total watch time, session duration, abandonment rate, etc. in order to keep viewers on their platform for as long as possible so they can serve more ads and make as much money as possible. It's becoming more and more about the money and less about the quality content and user experience (which they claim is their top priority).

Steemit is the start of a revolution!
