Experiences and lessons learned from being a Steem ambassador at the Blockshow Asia Conference in Singapore

Dear Steemians,

day 2 of the huge Blockshow Asia 2019 by Cointelegraph conference and a whole week of decentralized finance is over and a lot of new input again. After speaking to many people and spreading the word about Steem I introduced some more people to the Steemit platform by showing and guiding them through the whole registration process. Even more, I spoke to a lot of multiplicators - people who have the power and networks to boost Steem significantly.

The target audience for this event was widely different though. You could notice that this year’s event was investment-driven, with a lot of new exchanges doing advertising. I spoke to some of the owners and asked them about why and if they listed Steem. Some had it already, some were looking into it. Hopefully, we will see progress on this in the future to have higher liquidity for trading and overall bigger markets. Some questions arose about why to list Steem over other tokens?

With an investment panel and regulations in the morning, a lot of discussions were being held about the future of crypto and blockchain in general. Speaking to a girl who knew Steem already and also had an account, but wasn’t active recently, she was happy that the platform is still going and growing and would check out her old account again.

In the afternoon finance and Marketing & PR were the topics. Some input here which can also be applied to Steem is: having a clear image of your brand, especially for your customer but also for the company itself.

With an evening event again in a rooftop sky location there were also more chances for networking. Meeting people from many countries I got to dive into deeper conversations again.

So I think for the future it is important to make it clearer for people what Steem stands for and to properly explain the whole ecosystem. A lot of them have heard of the Blockchain itself but couldn’t pinpoint like a one of a kind feature - like a USP (unique selling point) of it. For example, they were surprised when I told them about no fees and really fast transaction times which definitely sparked their interest.

The biggest lessons of the event and feedback from people were:

  1. Make it clear what Steem stands for and what it can make possible for everyone

  2. Have a concise branding strategy and representation at events

  3. Constant development to not fall behind “new hot” projects and being seen as an old-fashioned project.

Hope this helped to give an insight into the thought processes and challenges needed to also be seen as relevant and successful in the future!

I think we should take about "No fees, fast transfers" more. I see people talk about upvotes and such but not about the (lack of) network fees.
