Steemfest - 2019 - Blockshow - Steem ambassador lessons and suggestions for the future

Steemfest 2019 is over.
Blockshow 2019 is over.
The world is moving on and changing faster than ever.

With a lot of input from both conferences and meetups, I have arrived back in Germany.
In this article, I want to devote to some lessons, experiences and followings I learned, which can specifically be applied to Steem and Steemit.

First of all, marketing is a big issue. During the hype and peak times in 2017, Steem used to be an often mentioned name in the top rating of coins and also in several different forums like for example the bitcointalk forum.
These times have changed and of course since then multiple communities and roundtables have formed and are going on around the world. The community seems a bit closed off still, especially in incentivizing users to join the platform, spend time and invest energy in it.

A second point is to properly cast a light on the aspect of fast transactions onto the platform and especially the fast and cheap transactions speeds. The community-driven witness programme is also an important aspect. The whole decentralization and censorship-resistance. I got asked quite a lot of questions about the owner of the ecosystem and was happy to say that it is us all. This point needs to be emphasized more!

Thirdly, whilst it may seem obvious, there needs to also be ways and projects to make it more accessible to totally new people outside of the crypto sphere. While there is a supply of exchanges listing Steem, most of them don't have a fiat gateway attached to it, to make buying new Steem as easy as a purchase with a credit card. New users have to go the detour through two exchanges before arriving in the still complicated wallet and key management system in Steem. This reduces the target audience size by a substantial amount of people to mostly those already in the crypto sphere. About the diversity of people there can be argued, but it would be definitely bigger if other creative, non-tech-savvy users could join the platform as simple as downloading an app and straight-up getting started sharing and caring.

Overall I am very bullish for Steem in the new decade of the 2020s. If above-mentioned aspects can be properly integrated and in a not too disruptive but still fast way, it would improve everything a lot. It's still a long way to go, but we are definitely getting there step by step with the help of the whole amazing community!
