【Reuters】Cambodia aims hybrid digital currency on blockchain at unbanked

Aiming to increase the use of local currency and expand financial inclusion, Cambodia's central bank launched a pilot digital payment system in July 2019.

And the current pandemic is a boon that has accelerated the adoption of Bakong, a free mobile app developed by Japanese blockchain firm Soramitsu, named after an ancient Khmer temple.

Bakong allows Cambodians to make payments and send money through any bank on the platform, even if they do not have an account with that bank.
