As an innovative technology company, Ruff Chain’s office is located in an area well-known for technical development, the Shanghai Zhangjiang Hi-tech Park. They occupy roughly one-third of the project incubator area, which is large for a startup in this space. Let’s take a closer look at how the employees of Ruff Chain spend their day at the office.
Starting the Day at Ruff with a Stand-up Meeting
The employees at Ruff enjoy a flexible work schedule and can start work at 9:00 or 9:30 in the morning. For the Technical Department staff, they start their morning with a stand-up meeting where everyone stands in a circle and discusses what they worked on yesterday, what their plan is for today, and how the tasks will be assigned.
At 9:30 a.m., the employees gathered together to take a group photo after the “Stand-up Meeting”. With a few female employees in the company, more than 70% of the employees are male programmers.
Pictured below is an employee from the development team. Since some of his colleagues are on vacation, the development workload is heavy at the moment. Everyone is expected to invest additional time and energy into development as required.
This is Dajie, also our full stack engineer. He arrives at the company at 8:00 a.m. every day, and writes codes standing up all day. Now Dajie is mainly responsible for the project development of blockchain technology, DAPP.
Many team members were previously responsible for technical development at large companies, such as Intel and Cisco, so they are very versatile. Some are experienced in Solidity and JavaScript, while others are skilled at C++ and embedded languages. There are also full stack engineers on the team, which makes the development team diverse and cross-functional.
Everyone is Unique
In addition to the Technical Department, the Product Business Department is also very busy working to combine traditional IoT business scenarios with blockchain technology. Some customers are preparing to put data on the blockchain, so members of the Product Business Department need to upgrade the original IoT layer architecture to utilize blockchain and provide customers with solutions based on the Ruff public chain. In this department, there are core lead product manager, lead businesses analyst, front-end engineers, back-end engineers, data analysts, test engineers, and UI designers. They are also primarily responsible for the development of Ruff’s Industrial IoT products, so it is not much of a leap for them to develop apps based on the Internet and IoT layers. Currently, they are doing business analysis and modelling in the blockchain field as traditional customers begin connecting to this new technology.
This is Hu Bin, our back-end development programmer. He is responsible for back-end development and coding every day. When asked about the feeling of working in Ruff, he said sincerely: “I feel Ruff is cooler than any company I stayed previously, because it has open and harmonious atmosphere, and there is no sense of working constraints here.
Today, the new version of Ruff Plant Insight will be released. For them, the release of a new version each month is an exciting process because small bugs can be addressed directly and the product can be optimized—overtime is a must tonight.
This is Wang Boyang, a front-end programmer who has just joined Ruff. He graduated this year and is currently responsible for the very important front-end development work in Ruff. When Boyang first came for the job interview, he also brought his own toiletries, so that he can live near the company and wait for the offer, because he likes Ruff and really wants to be a part of it.
Exercise and Healthy Food are an Essential Part of Each Day
Since most of the employees at Ruff are technical developers, physical activity is rare so they are required to stop work each afternoon and perform plank exercises to help alleviate the fatigue caused by continuous thinking. At four o'clock every afternoon, you will see a row of employees lying on the ground performing eight sets of planks in succession; the non-technical staff join in as well.
At 4 o'clock in the afternoon, the plank teacher, Gao Xu, started the music on time, and the employees picked up their yoga mats to start the exercise. It is usually a bit difficult for most girls to finish eight sets of plank exercises, however surprisingly, everyone successfully completed the whole exercise.
After the exercise session comes afternoon tea. Ruff provides fresh seasonal fruits and snacks for the employees, ensuring everyone has a chance to refuel during the work day. Once they have had a chance to relax for a while, it is back to work.
Today's fruit is watermelon, which is the most popular fruit in summer. In the ten-minute break, everyone joins in a relaxed and pleasant chat, which is the most joyful moment of the afternoon.
Today, the company is being interviewed by a local media, which often happens, since Ruff keeps gaining reputation in domestic IoT and blockchain industry.
