The loyalty card physically looks like a credit or debit card and it identifies the holder as a partaker in the loyalty program. The main purpose of this card is that it gives it's holders a ration of points which gives the consumer the right to a discount, an immediate purchase or more points for future purchases. Furthermore, the loyalty card is one card to a store, a consumer with a card can only use it in that particular store they got it from, Card A can only be used in store A and never in store B.
PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH LOYALTY PROGRAMS & CARDS.
- These loyalty programs are often under-valued, because a large volume of the points (loyalty cards) are piled up and never used.
- In our present day world, a consumer cannot have a single merchant from whom they purchase all their goods from and because of this, loyalty cards tend to get too much in the hands of a single customer due to collection of these cards from too many merchant they deal with, along the line, these pile of cards becomes a burden on the bearer and it's finally thrown away.
- The lack of cooperation and integration between merchants, since every merchant that gives out a Loyalty card to it's customer have its own policy, terms and conditions that means that a Loyalty card from merchant A can only be used in merchant's A stores, this lack of cooperation among merchants is really what causes consumers to have a pile of reward cards.
- Most times these loyalty cards expires without the knowledge of the consumer because there is no way they can be able to check expiry date of their reward cards nor remaining points.
- These loyalty points cannot be exchanged for cash (fiat money).
The above mentioned problems is what it causing reduction in foot traffic to online stores and malls.
