Fragments: The Decentralized Blockchain Platform For Expanding Micro Services!

FRAGMENTS

Current micro-task services are usually closed and with limited expandability, making integration of micro tasks in other areas difficult. Open micro-task platforms aiming to solve these problems, have recently started to emerge. However, these platforms provide little incentives for developers to extend them and build new micro-task applications. As a result, making use of human workforce in a wide variety of areas, is still difficult.

Our aim is to enable micro-task services to expand, by combining an open plat- form built on blockchain, with incentives for developers who extend it, thus building a transparent platform that is easy to access and build upon for everyone, which also rewards developers who are able to create successful services on top of it. With Fragments, Developers earn tokens by creating micro-task applications. Companies and individuals who want to outsource tasks (Requesters), are connected to human workers (Annotators), who use the applications to complete the tasks and earn to- kens.

Fragments will be a mobile-first decentralized platform, which incentivizes de- velopers to build future micro-task applications that we cannot imagine today. Our goal is to create a trusted platform, by implementing identity-management and agree- ments on the blockchain and providing self-hosted solutions, while reducing costs and barriers to entry for all – requesters, annotators, and developers.

What makes Fragments unique?

Services and solutions that provide human intelligence already exist. For example, Amazon Mechanical Turk, CrowdSource, Cloudfactory and CrowdFlower provide an online workforce; Kaggle and Qlik DataMarket sell structured and labeled datasets; and companies that need their data annotated privately, often use in-house teams to do so.

Fragments platform will provide millions of people with easy access to simple micro-tasks that cannot be performed by AI.
These tasks can be completed on your smartphone, while traveling on the train, waiting for your coffee, even during television ad breaks.

Open standard for new micro-task economy

The Platform will allow developers to generate income, by building new micro-task apps and expanding to new markets.

Fragments is built on top of Ethereum and provides to micro-task apps, what Ethereum provides to blockchain apps – an easily accessible and extensible framework and infrastructure. Fragments provides a framework for requesters so they can advertise their tasks and a framework for annotators so they can pick and mark tasks completed on their mobile device and elsewhere. The dApp in the middle has a number of functions including advertisement of task batches, logs of what tasks were completed and payments.

There is no limit on what data the tasks actually consist of. Only general in- formation such as task description, price and tags are advertised through the dApp. Once an annotator picks a task batch he wants to work on, the task data and replies are sent directly from the requester to the annotator, outside of the dApp. Hence, apps can be developed for all kinds of tasks, be it the traditional image labeling or more advanced tasks, such as requiring the annotator to complete a task with a Chrome extension, which tracks his movement on a particular site and then sends it to the requester.

Both requester and annotator sides can be extended and therefore, the possibili- ties are broad – from new types of tasks, to requester-side features, such as combin- ing machine learning algorithms with human workers on the Fragments platform, to annotator-side enhancements such as an app made for wearables (e.g. smartwatch).

“Fragments provides to micro-task apps, what Ethereum provides to blockchain apps.”
