The DNS server for BlackWallet, an online wallet for the Stellar Lumen cryptocurrency (XLM), was hacked and more than $ 400,000 was stolen from user accounts.
According to Bleeping Computer, the attack occurred on Jan. 13, when hackers hacked the DNS entry to the BlackWallet.co domain and redirected it to their own server. As a result, this attack allowed them to collect 669,920 lumens, or about $ 400,192 at the current XML / USD exchange rate. Stellar Lumen today ranks among the eight most popular cryptocurrencies in terms of market capitalization according to CoinMarketCap.
The BlackWallet team and other XLM owners have tried to warn users via alerts on Reddit, Twitter, GitHub, the Stellar community and GalacticTalk forums, but to no avail, as users continue to log in to the domain BlackWallet.co, enter their identification codes, and then mysteriously see the funds in their wallets disappear.
Hackers would have started to transfer funds to Bittrex where they are likely to convert the stolen funds into another cryptocurrency to clear their tracks.
