When Blockchain Meets Fan-Based Football Leagues

No, it’s not fantasy football. It’s not gambling. Believe it or not, soon there will be an entire football league built on the foundation that fans can (and should) be able to select players and coaches; they’ll even be able to play a role in strategy!

It’s definitely a different approach — it feels a little bit more like a video game, but it’s real life. Fans want to be able to have a greater sense of connection and control with real-life football.

In this case, the brand we’re mentioning is Fan Controlled Football League (FCFL) whose premise functions fully on the Ethereum blockchain with their own cryptocurrency to influence and control the dynamics of team management, rankings, drafting, picking coaches, and even calling the plays. Although it’s a relatively new approach, it’s not the first — United Fans is right there already. We saw the opportunity empowered by the security of the blockchain and want to offer that connection to fans all around the world. When technology is used to do something amazing and meaningful in the world of sports, it’s an amazing thing that has no borders or limitations. We are all united by sports and with this technology, you will be able to become a meaningful, contributing voice in the teams that mean the most to you.

The CEO of FCFL described this as, “…building a real life video game,”. He states, “Sports is very tribal and geographic-based, but video games aren’t. When you load up a game for the first time, you’re drawn to a character or team for a number of factors. So, we’re building eight different archetypes for these teams. Different in look, feel, logo, color and we really create reasons for a fan to align.”

It’s hitting the nail on the head — that’s exactly the type of connection we recognized when we put together United Fans. Fan-controlled teams aren’t completely new, but they need the tools and means to reach the audience around the world and to offer those connections. How globalized can it be if the tools are physical and to some degree, monetized by a fixed currency; however, when you introduce cryptocurrency which has global access and isn’t restricted by financial institutions and legal red tape, the possibilities for connection are really open to everybody.

Now FCFL is looking at a particular niche in which fans will be allowed to call the plays, and it seems they’ve established its possibility, and they’re confident the interest exists. They’re going to integrate interactivity directly into their product and United Fans is all about that — interactivity and connection is key!

So, bring it on! Let’s start opening people’s minds and igniting imagination to the international power of fandom running on the security of the blockchain.
