June Gloom Lies Ahead Ocean Winds On & Off Rain

June Gloom Lies Ahead Ocean Winds On & Off Rain
We continue to look at a rather pessimistic outlook going forward. Over the next 5 to 7 days we will be dealing with an onshore flow with the exception of tomorrow which will be the one warm humid day. Rain will be in the forecast though it will tend to be of the on and off nature so there will be some dry stretches. The rest of the time it will be cloudy with occasional patches of light rain or drizzle. It really is not a good weather pattern at all. We have blocking in the North Atlantic which displaces the jet stream will to the south of normal. This creates all sorts of problems with higher pressures in Southeastern Canada and lower pressures to the south.

It begins today with clouds though the dry air from Eastern New England that made its way southward is still nearby. Clouds though will win this battle and there could be some passing showers. We see them speckled around on the regional radar. Most of the time it will not be raining however. Temperatures will likely be in the mid 60s to lower 70s but warm air will be moving into South Jersey & Southeastern Pennsylvania where temperatures will reach the upper 70s & lower 80s in those areas.

Friday brings a very warm humid day with some sunshine and highs into the 80s away from the ocean. Late in the day a cold front arrives with the chance for downpours or a thunderstorm. Then we start a long stretch of onshore winds, cloudy skies, and on and off rain.
Saturday's rain may be minimized to a short time frame and we may just be sitting in clouds the rest of the time with temperatures in the 70s. South Jersey and Southeastern Pennsylvania might still manage 80 in some places. Once low pressure begins to develop Saturday night and Sunday cool marine air comes in and we will see temperatures Sunday and Monday in the 60s at best along with occasional rain.
The onshore flow creates a bit of an upside down nature to the temperature profile. This map of temperatures for 2pm Sunday shows what clouds, rain and a northeast creates here. To the north in New England it is dry with temperatures in the 70s and some sunshine. To the south it is very warm to hot and not overly humid with temperatures in the 80s to near 90. We sit in between with clouds and some rain and a wind coming off 55 degree water. This is not a recipe for summer weather by any means. Weather models hold this pattern in through the middle of next week at least so be prepared to feel frustrated over the lack of sunshine.
