What is the Steem Blockchain?
Like Bitcoin, Steem is a cryptocurrency or digital money that anyone can use to purchase products or services online or even from a physical store. How to Start an Account on the Steem Blockchain?
Unlike most digital applications where registration is easy, Steem Blockchain registration can be a bit complex. There are two ways to sign-up.
You can sign-up for free, and you can use the Steemit platform to do this. However, to protect the Steem community from bots and misuse, the platform will require you to use an email and phone number that can be validated manually to make sure that you're human. Account validation process can usually take a week to two weeks.
Now, if you want your account to get activated immediately, you can pay for your Steem access via the following platform:
- Blocktrade, a third-party tool that accepts Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Steem and more. Blocktrade will charge you a very small fee for using the platform to activate your Steem account.
- Steemwallet, an open-source mobile wallet that utilizes in-app payments for 1-tap account creation. This makes Steem registration convenient for users. Like Blocktrade, Steemwallet will also charge you its own small fee.
- AnonSteem, a third-party tool that accepts Bitcoin, Litecoin and Steem. Similar to Blocktrade and Steemwallet, AnonSteem will also charge you its own small fee; finally, there is
- SteemConnect which is perfect if you already have a Steem account and want to pay for a new account for yourself or a friend.
How to Set up your Steem Account?
Once you’ve received confirmation via email that your account is active, please make sure to remember that your passwords are extremely important. If you lose your passwords, there is absolutely no way for you to retrieve it, and whatever investment you’ve made on your account are gone so please take good care of your passwords. There are four password keys,
- The first is called the Owner Key. The owner key gives full control over your Steem account.
- The second is called Active Key. The active key can perform almost all functions for an account except change the owner key.
- The third is called Posting Key. The posting key allows accounts to post, comment, vote, and follow other accounts.
- The fourth is called Memo Key.The memo key is the only key that can decrypt private messages sent to your account.
What can you do once you have your Steem Account activated?
Unlike most applications, having a Steem activated account can give you access to ALL applications that are already built on the Steem blockchain. You basically just need one login ID for the many apps that are built on the Steem platform, and that is just amazingly convenient!
