BlockTrades now offering Steem Power Delegations

BlockTrades (http://blocktrades.us) has begun testing a new feature: the ability to purchase temporary delegations of Steem Power from our site using bitcoin, litecoin, and other currencies. Initially we’re offering 30 and 90 day delegation periods. The cost for a 30 day should be relatively similar to that offered by MinnowBooster, with some additional discount available for 90 day delegations. Also we plan to shortly enable the ability to renew existing delegations from BlockTrades at a discounted rate.

While it is not strictly necessary to create a BlockTrades account in order to purchase a Steem Power delegation, we strongly recommend it as this allows a user to have a record of the current expiration date of the delegation and will also allow for renewal of an existing delegation.

Terms and Conditions for Steem Power Delegations

While BlockTrades does not plan to directly oversee usage of the delegated Steem, we will investigate complaints of abuse by the community. BlockTrades reserves the right to terminate a user’s delegated Steem Power without refund if the user uses the delegation in a manner it considers harmful to the Steem community. The most common forms of abuse in this context would be: frequent upvoting of nearly contentless posts and/or plagiarism posts, targeted downvoting attacks on non-abusive community members, or phishing attacks aimed at defrauding other Steem users.

On the other hand, BlockTrades does not consider it abuse to upvote your own posts as long as they consist of original material that can be argued to have some meaningful content (even if it’s just an original joke).

but there is little that I doubt,
what if the community delegates two places, that means delegating from the first party and secondly from the second party, whether it can get the SP from both parties.
as an example, I've got delegates from others, can I still get from you?

yes, robert-call is correct. You can get delegation from multiple sources. Note that it is NOT possible to re-delegate the steem you get from a delegation, however.

Thanks for the reply, the return for 6sbd seems not worth doing now, so I will have to give it a miss. Will you be adding ripple xrp to the trade list in the future? as I have hundreds of those in my nano s wallet, and would gladly exchange them.

I just checked this and we get only 18.827 steem power for 1 steem for a 90 days period, where as the same investment in minnowbooster gets 150 SP for a period more than 4 weeks. So not sure, how even they are comparable. Isn't it too small ?

I looked up minnowbooster's pricing page that you're referencing, but something is hard to understand about that price, because it's not what you actually get from a delegation from them when you do it. I think we are both misinterpreting the meaning of that page.

Short periods don't work as well because there's a 1 week delay before delegated steem "returns". So short delegations would end up being much more expensive. But it's a possibility if there is enough interest. It might be a good way for an author to quickly gain attention for a series of posts in order to establish themselves.

just a thought. But wouldn't a voting bot where the vote could be purchased for x days at a time at x voting strength accomplish this better than trying to buy delegation for less than say 2 weeks? Once the voting period is purchased it is up to the purchaser to make the posts to get themselves established.

There's no way to compute this I think. For example, perhaps most importantly, the ultimate value of purchasing a steem delegation can be much more than the immediate return one gets from upvoting one's posts. This is because it makes it easier to gain attention initially and this can lead to long term profit long after the delegation has expired.

Do you plan on bumping up the SP limit? Or is it gone once it it sold out?

We have a limited supply, of course, but I'm not sure exactly how much we will be able to offer. We've been planning to do something like this almost since delegations were initially announced, but we just have been too busy with other projects.

We have no plans for offering a service that directly competes with minnowbooster's business model of matching up delegator/delegatees, as it's a much more complicated thing to do well and doesn't really fit with how the rest of our system operates.

Yes, there is a apparently a 2 Steem Power minimum enforced by the blockchain. We're adding a warning about it now, because I guess some people try such minimum amounts as a test.

To be honest, I still feel weird to see blocktrades doing this. I think mainly because you have such a strong brand image of quick and no-fuss exchange but buying SP delegation is totally another thing. Wouldn't this undermine your brand somehow? especially to those outside the Steem community... I am not sure, maybe you have evaluated this already.

One particular good thing from this service though, in addition to MB's similar service that is, is that this will facilitate those who want to give power to some Steemians but do not want to reveal their Steem identity or even do no have one at all!! So this is somewhere you might consider focusing for your future marketing direction. Say if Vitalik Buterin sees a Steemit post about him and likes it so he decides to give the author a gift in this way but he doesn't want to register at all (yeah, I can imagine that...). This is what he can use. XD

The purchase process for Steem Delegations is actually pretty much the same as normal purchases of coins (except that we will offer the option of delegation renewals in the near future). So I don't anticipate it will cause any confusion to our existing user base (and so far, we haven't seen any).

Naturally, there will be some people who will think it's a bad thing: this is true of just about any new thing in crypto from what I've seen. As one of the largest steem holders, I did give it a lot of thought before deciding to offer the service, and I'm sure it will be a net positive for the long-term value of the coin.

Delegation is a powerful feature. I've delegated to a few people I trust so they can use it to vote up the good content. I do have concerns about people buying such things to just benefit themselves, but I think Ned said it's just another business opportunity.

I saw you around at Steemfest, but missed the chance to chat and thank you for your generous votes on my posts. They are much appreciated. This platform is amazing and the people I met there just reinforced my belief in it.

@blocktrades I just went to https://www.steemnow.com/upvotecalc.html and put in 100,000 SP. It calculated that full power upvote to be worth $8.44.

Is that correct? (For instance) paying $2,000 for approx 100,000SP only gets one less than $10/upvote? (yes I know steem price varies, etc.)

In your experience so far, what do people do with the delegated SP they buy from you? If they buy, say $2,000 for an approx $9 upvote....even if they do all 10 full power votes for themselves they're running a loss on that investment. I guess they're hoping for followers and 'trend' upvotes...)?

I haven't done the math, but I think delegations are only cost effective if you are able to get others to vote for your posts as a result of the higher profile your own vote brings. But you are missing one factor in your calculations that improves the value of getting a delegation: a delagatee doesn't just get extra money when he self-votes, he also gets higher curation rewards on all his votes (not just his own posts).

I haven't seen the values there yet (will go google something like 'how much can one make curating on steemit').

I doubt it, but in theory I think you SHOULD be able to, because more people would see the post you've upvoted and upvote it as well. In practice, I doubt you would unless you were very good at finding posts that other people just don't see at all, because the 30 minute rule tends to crush a curator's potential for profit (this is something I would like to see change).

u need to give at least three warnings to alleged abusers before cancelling delegation. Plus u need to return unused part of bitcoins on retrograde basis. That will be a fair contract. Else it does not generate enogh confidence.

Our policy is strict because we have a strong stance against abuse. If there's any doubt in the mind of a potential purchaser about whether or not people will consider their usage of the SP delegation to be abusive, they should not use our service for delegations.

It is cheaper because of the "Period of rent(delegation)", hiring a service for a longer time means you have to pay more. So, that longer time rent result in lower SP. and yeah, you can buy delegation with steem and many other cryptocurrencies as well. Hope that helps

Yes, it is cheaper than minnowbooster, MB gives 150 for 4 steem(28 days) while BlockTrades is 197 for same 4 steem(30 days). So that is 47 extra SP when you use BlockTrades

Question: Did the price for delegated SP just change?

Two days ago I put $2000 (randomly selected amount) worth of btc into the blocktrades purchase section to see how many 30 day delegated SP that would buy.

Two days ago it was 112k SP.
Today it's 74k SP.

Big difference.

The price for delegated SP went up ($1,000 more for the same 112K amount compared to two days ago)?

I wanted to get some more delegations.. but I can't access blocktrades.us for a while now.. is there any limit to how many times I can use blocktrades in one day or a week and that's why I can't have access now or there is an issue with the overall site? @blocktrades this is another disrupted initiative from you. All the steemit community should be thankful. The first great thing you did was creating a magical tool to convert steem into Litecoin, Ethereum or Bitcoin, and other, and deposit it on any wallet of the persons choice, this is increible, a great bridge for people to exchange some of their earnings for fiat money and make a living from steemit. Yes, I think you figured it out....
for 10Steem you can get 1000 SP for 30 days or 333 SP spread out over 90days. (not realistic...just an ex)

Actually the 90day delegation is about 10-15% stronger or better... so if you can afford it... go for the longer delegation. but balance with your time input... if you want to go Hard and Heavy for 30 days, better to invest 10 or 20 or 50 for much more SP but only 30 days. But if you are slow and steady, less SP, but longer time is a better deal.

EX. 10Steem for 30 days gets you ????? 500 SP
10 Steem/30 days for 90 days gets you ??? 560 SP... but that 10 steem is per 30 days... so will cost 10X3= 30 Steem for 90 days.

10-15% better rate.

This isn't lending and there's no interest. Usury is a totally different thing. And I agree that lending can be dangerous if not properly managed. At least we have bankruptcy laws nowadays to protect people from permanent debt (although they sadly broke those rules for college loans here in the US).

The cost for a 30 day should be relatively similar to that offered by MinnowBooster, with some additional discount available for 90 day delegations.

Great initiative my dear friend @blocktrades. However, when I checked this above in your website I noticed something a lil bit confuse and hard to understand.

¿How comes that if for example: I pay 0.0050 BTC for a Delegated Steem Power (30 days) deal I obtain 1950.435 SP and if it is for a (90 days) deal I obtain 744.676 SP? ¡Almost 3 times less delegated SP for the 90 days deal!

Uhmm, something appears to not be right in the calculations according what I quoted above.

Please, take a look on this and throw us some clearer light about this mate. :)

Yes, you obtain less because your money is distributed for mor days

744 SP for 90 days should mean 2232 SP for 30 days.. so, the fact that you get 1950 means you are getting 300 more.

There's pros and cons to both methods I think. To me it really depends on how you want to engage with the community. If you're mostly just interested in promoting your own content directly, vote buying is certainly one way to get attention for it. But a combination of voting up your own and like-minded posts can also be a powerful to build up a community.

I love the idea. I have used blocktrades for many of my transactions favouring it over exchanges because it is fast and fees are affordable.
The UI is more userfriendly than minnowbooster so I guess I will be purchasing my subscription from here. Great job.

This is very interesting. Delegation is when someone lends their Steem Power to another user, right?

From what I understand of things, being able to use Blocktrades for those who delegate their SP, it will make it much simpler.

Should we create an account with Blocktrades if we use it to exchange SBD?

Someone should create a site/bot to monitor delegation eg. from mb and blocktrades, and in the very near future from a thousand other exchanges, corporations holding crypto, blockchain funds, Chinese mining investors, facebroke, googling, media companies, and other soon to be mainstream steemit investors when steem >$100.

Why you ask?

Well, it can be very positive:

Put your name it, site will mine data and show you how much you have earn with delegated&upvoted post enhancement during periods of delegation. (Will be some creative programming to sync all those delegation overlaps, 7 days payment delays, and finding total % of additional upvotes it attract when you get that delegated milkshake to bring all the boys to the yard....but that's why I'm only 'reply' in english and not implement in code)
A site can be setup to show top 100, % return for accounts using delegation, so other can learn from them (aka stalk them and reverse engineer their style)
Site will show % of self delegation upvote vs % of delegation to upvote other users, to celebrate those who share the wreath at least a little (meaning 100% self upvote vs 1% other upvote), or those who just don't share at all (so we can all agree never to upvote them unless the post a masterpiece...or upvote them with our special 0.001 steem upvote account to earn curation at the 20-40minute mark ;-P )
Site will show % of delegated steem use to downvote (ok this is controversal, but delegation can be a powerful way to abuse someone) or powerup revenge flag wars....just saying.

Ok...maybe not 4, I probably don't know what I'm talking about, I just like to reply with shit that comes to my mind....then later think about it and go...ok that's fkup.

don't get me wrong, I'm sure I'm going to like @blocktrades when I start using them (just as soon as I figure out how to invest in this blockchain technology....I'm still struggling to finding a mythical btc atm when you can put cash in so I can get myself some juicy steem anonymously?)
