Let's face it, most people want to be cooler and more respected than they actually are. Such is evidenced every time I look at the job titles of those that are on LinkedIn. You worked at Kmart as a cashier for the last 2 years, but wanted it to look like you were really really important. When writing a resume or a LinkedIn profile it is important to use as many big and fancy words as possible. Remember you weren't a Cashier, you were a Chief Accounts Receivable Specialist. If you worked at Walmart you weren't a customer service member, you were a Business Operations Asset Assistant. I've come to find great entertainment in the titles some people give themselves, but sadly they work. Unfortunately today it is necessary to hype up yourself for job opportunists more than ever. Give me a job title and I'll give you an exaggerated title that will get you 10 times more respect.
