Moments In History! Jimmy Carter Childhood Home.

in blog •  5 years ago  (edited)

I told you I wanted to travel and get some history of the U.S. So I went to the Childhood home of Jimmy Carter In Plains Ga. and wanted to share some of the pictures I took from this location. Jimmy Carter and his wife are living in Plains Ga. Where they have a house and reside there, not far away from his childhood farm. Here are just a few of the pictures and I will be posting more of them later as it would be a long post to put them all in one post. This will be the introduction post to these series of posts!

The Carter family moved into this house in 1928 and did not have running water or electricity until 1938 and lived here until 1949. They used fireplaces and stoves for cooking and staying warm in winter.

The wood stove in the kitchen, I know that there are many people, to this day that still use a stove like this for cooking and heating. Stoves like this are sought after and wanted by many homesteaders and off-grid people.

This is the windmill that still, to this day, produces water for the animals and the crops there.

People think the old rotary phones were a pain in the butt. Can you imagine using this phone and really waiting for the line to clear to make a call. Was there a thing as busy signals back then?

Sitting here for a while sharping all the farm plows and other implements needed on the farm. It was a long noisy day I bet! It would be a good workout pumping pedals to sharpen what was needed!

Here is a couple of photos of the store and the gas pump. There is also a price list of what things sold for in those days. It may look cheap to you and in today's wages it is, really cheap, but remember in the late '30s and 40s minimum wage was only about a quarter and hour, .25 cents, that is about $10.00 dollars a week, taxes still came out that and also had to feed and house your family on that. That is still less than you make on minimum wage in 2020, on a 40 hour work week.

Just some pictures and a little about the life of our 39th president Jimmy Carter. There is more to come on his boyhood farm, so please follow me if you like and want to see more. Thanks for reading and I hope everyone is having a good day/night, whatever it is in your part of the world.
