A funny story from a long time ago.

I owned my own computer repair shop in Sheffield and it was safe to say one of the worst things I ever did, Money was not the problem but everyone who walked through the door had googled what was wrong first and was telling me the problem before I had even booked it in for repair.

Now there are a lot of problems with computers as technology has advanced over the years and just because some one has written in a forum that this is the problem does not mean that is defiantly the problem with your computer.

Now to my story.

I had a customer walk into my shop and ask if I could fix a water damaged laptop, I said it depends on how bad it was on the inside and I would run some diagnostics on it to see what I could do about his problem.
I booked the laptop in and gave him a receipt so he could come back and collect it at any point and put it on my shelf while I worked on another machine.
The next day I set about taking his laptop apart and seeing what damaged had been cursed by the water damage.
as I opened the laptop up there was a funny smell and I could not put my finger on what it was and I carried on taking out screws, inside the laptop was wet through and some of the connections had turned a rusty color the smell had got worse at this time and I decided to phone the customer, he did not answer but I left him a message and about an hour later he walked into the shop to talk to me about it.

the kicker

He was very stand off ish when he was talking to me, I said what happened? and he explained.

• I was drunk the other night and I went to the toilet, my laptop was on the floor and I missed fired and weed all over the laptop and not in the bowl of the loo.-

My face was a picture I guess as I am pulling the face right now while I write this, I said to him, " you let me handle a urine soaked laptop with out telling me what it was first"

I passed him his laptop in bits as I had not put it back together again and told him to get out of my shop.

How disgusting is that?

It was safe to say every other customer that came into my shop with water damaged laptops I asked them what the water was.
