Helping a friend and getting stuck in snow. the day in the life of a pizza delivery man.

in blog •  7 years ago

OMG. I had a phone call from my old boss asking to help him out as his staff could not get into work, went out on a delivery at 11 pm and I'm still not home 8 hours later.

The main roads were clear as I made the journey out to Handsworth but as soon as I hit the side roads my bag of spanners I call my car was sliding everywhere.

I slipped down a hill going backwards and it got scary I got to the address to give the customer his food and that was it for me last night.

I could not get my car out from the side of the road as the wheels just slid and slid, I had a spade and dug around the wheels but under the car compress ice. I sat in my car wondering what to do.

I popped on steemit to pass some time as I tried calling my wife to let her know that I was stuck out but she must have been asleep and there was no answer.

What do I do? I scratched my head. So i decided to walk to my mum's house as it is closer to me and leave the car behind.

I dropped my wife a lot of texts saying to her that I was not coming home till later today but still no reply, I know she is safe as I spoke to her at 10 and she would have phoned or text if there was a problem.

The walk home took nearly 2 hours. I am tired but I am up. but as I look out of the window I don't think I will be getting my car today.

The complaints last night were crazy, people were phoning asking where their food was, I could not drive any faster than 10 mph, if I was to crash well what then? if I am too lose my car then I can't work. my insurance goes up. what happens if I kill someone? do people not realise that it is so dangerous.

The complaints kept coming and coming, I felt like saying to them, - just because it's snowing does that make your oven not work you lazy bastards.

I am not normally like that, I like work to be busy, but you would think common sense would say to people, oh yes it's snowing maybe the delivery might be longer.

I think some people thought I was delivering on the above mode of transport.

hahahaha

keep steeming my friends and till next time big smiles

@artonmysleeve.Many indviduals lack common sense. You can blimmen clearly see the weathers awful and expect things to run as normal.Just appreciate the circumstances and have a bit of empathy. They just want the delivery without even considering whether its even safe for it to be made.Does my nut in that. The snow is not to bad here but its the cold.My kids were crying walking back from school yesterday.I had kitted them out for the journey but still cold was getting through. Not happy bunny😔

bless your kids, we let them take the day of school and then this morning we have had a text to say they're closed. in the years I have known the school they have never closed due to snow.
My kids were out playing in it for about 20 minutes until they decided that it was too cold to sledge haha and came in. I ran them a hot bath to get them warm.
It does my nut in too, I order takeaways I shouldn't as I am a chef, but sometimes when I get in from work I like to have something made for me instead of me making it all the time.
between me and the other driver we did 62 deliveries, we had to take just eat down for 1 hour because it was getting rammed, the staff in the shop were pulled out and I was helping them in the shop by making the food and taking orders. it was so busy.
Customers were queuing out of the shop to buy food even with a 40-minute wait on collection. it was crazy.
I wish people would get a grip, it's only a bit of snow.
cheers for commenting.

Oh my days.Thats crazy. You know the mad thing is I would never actually order on a snowy day.Firstly if I dont have to, I am not stepping foot out my door.😂Id rather have my slippers on chillin with my kids and hubby with a nice warm drink.Secondly i wouldnt get it delivered due to state of the roads. You know the hysteria anyway when we get bad weather so I probably get luke warm food. You cant blame anyone else other then yourself thinking it would come on time, when there is mass panick with the drivers.Bless your kids.Yeh they see the snow but can be beautifully deceptive. When your gloves get wet thats when the cold seeps through and no going back other then running to your front door. The kids did get a day off just before xmas we had good 7 inches of snow.Happy Days😂.Bless hope your day goes better.I have two more missions to school.I am fully equiped now.You would think I'm trekking to Mount Everest, the schools only 10 mins away😂

where in the UK are you from @pamcooks?

The fabulous West Midlands😂! Good luck on your move.Headache at first but when you in your new place you wont mind.Your main prority for you and the misses is to keep kids entertained; so can get more work done.Thats what i had to do!👍🏼

I'm doing a promo-steem week In April if you fancy coming across to Sheffield. I'm dressing as the Easter Bunny and giving free Easter eggs to kids.

Just need a little help. I have got to other Steemians coming too I think, but I am thinking I'm going to need 5 helpers on the days to make it run smooth.

Aww Drew thats fab what you are doing.I would have loved to come but I have the 4 kids and hubby at work.My local babysitter i.e ( my lovely mum ) is having 2 months on a cruise ship ( alright for some). I will defo wait for your posts of that! I hope the Mrs gets her own back and tease you whilst your in the bunny costume!😂

P.s Got a text from school the kids are off tomorrow.Happy Days!! Good Times!👍🏼😂

2 weeks on a cruise that's nice for her, my mum goes on them all the time. she fly's to America and does 3 to 4 weeks at a time twice a year.
I don't mind dressing in costumes, I was a marvin the monkey for a children's play centre and I loved it. the only time I didn't was when they punch you in the nuts but I grow wise to there actions and made sure i had eyes in the back of my head.
Kids of school tomorrow? well I'm pulling my hair out right now. we have a little lad staying with us while his daddy is at work. and they are all bickering about who's doing what.
then I went upstairs and the bedroom was like a bomb site. proper OMG moment. I spent all day tidying tuesday and their room was mint.

glad you are safe. Bloody ungrateful lazy customers, obviously oblivious to the conditions outside while cosy sat on their bum. I hope they tipped well, I always do. Its blowing a gale here, I had to put a fleece on under my coat and zip it over my nose so I could breath when walking!

Hey @artonmysleeve, great post! I enjoyed your content. Keep up the good work! It's always nice to see good content here on Steemit! Cheers :)

I know what you mean. Theres been extreme rain where i am with mud slides down all the roads. I got a call yesterday asking me to taxi some people to town for shopping and back. It was the first work i'd received from this particular place so i couldnt say no. So i had to drive up and down a steep, windy mountain road in sheeting rain with no visibility and long drops off the edge, whilst smiling to my customers!

That sounds really dangerous, I don't think I would have done it. If I was the customer I think I would have been shitting bricks.

Glad you're safe though.
