A good friend of mine was telling me that he was going to phone 999, I asked him what was wrong.
He told me that every morning at around 4 am, some form of emergency responder would drive up to his flat and put their sirens on.
I looked at him intently while listen to him rant about how it wakes him up every morning early and he can't go back to sleep.
I then asked him why he was going to phone 999.
He went on to tell me that he was going to phone them to tell them to stop putting the sirens on when they go past his house.
I burst into laughter thinking he was messing around, the funny thing was while I was laughing he pulled his phone out and started to dial the 3 numbers for emergency services.
I grab for the phone and explained to him, the chances are that he would get told to put down the phone, and be arrested and probably be charged for wasting police time.
He looked at me and said "really?"
In his home country I think they can complain like this when something is bothering them.
I wouldn't want him to get into any trouble so I explained to him the laws in the UK, he was gob smacked that it could have got him into trouble.
In America that can get you into trouble too, but boy do a lot of people do it, both for f**king racist bullshit as well as drunken fools calling because McDonald's was closed or some nonsense. I haven't heard of anyone using it to complain, but it's probably happened!
