Takeaway delivery gone wrong. pizza delivery stress and upset. what should I do?

in blog •  7 years ago

Tonight I had a car accident and it was kind of my fault and I will explain why.

At half past 10 tonight I was out delivering pizza in a rough part of the neighbourhood, I always think to my self when out that way I should take my time as there could be someone around to rob me of my takings of the night.

I came to a flat and delivered pizza got back in my car to go to the next house and had to reverse to get back on the road straight, as I looked over my shoulder and checked my mirrors there was no car behind me.

I put my car in reverse and looked again as this always makes sense to check and check again, as I did my manoeuver I looked through my mirrors then there was a loud bang.

And I knew at this point that I had hit another car.

My adrenaline was pumping through my veins and I could hear shouting outside the car, I popped my car handbrake on and was met by a very angry young driver.

Now I can understand why he was upset as I would not like for anyone to drive into me as this would piss me off too, but things went south very fast and I got scared. (and I don't scare easy)

"did you not see me," he said.
"no" I replied and then said I was sorry for what had happened.
"your on drugs you" he then said to me
WTF I don't do drugs, I have a family and I have seen other people ruin there lives through doing that, so I would never do this kind of thing.
"no mate I don't do drugs" I replied
"your eyes are wide as fuck," he said.

The adrenaline was really pumping through my veins at this point as I could feel like he was trying to get me to fight with him.

"like I said, mate I'm sorry, but I have good insurance and they will sort it out"
Then the window of the car wound down on the passenger side and this guy with gold teeth started really ripping into me.

"you need to pay him cash now, otherwise I am going to get out of the car and knock you out and take what you have," the other guy said.

I asked him to calm down, with the reply of don't tell me to calm down I'll slit your throat, then a door opened to a house and another 3 guys came out and I started getting shit from them.

this was getting bad and fast, what do I do, there was nowhere to run to for help, there was no way I could get in my car as they had blocked me in and I would not get far, There was nobody around and I am thinking to my self that I am going to get hurt hear.

my heart was racing, I phoned my boss to verify to the guy I was who I was otherwise he would not let me go, lucky for me he said I was who I was.

I kept saying sorry for what had happened as I think this is the only way to get out of this situation, I really was on my own and the only people who were around was this guy and his mates and I felt intimidated.

He then took my picture, then pictures of my car and his car for damage
he then told me he had only had the car 3 weeks and just spent £2000 on it for the body kit and I had to pay for that, 25 minutes had passed by this time and it felt like a lifetime.

How could this happen I kept thinking to my self, I know he was not there when I was reversing but how can I prove this? what made it even harder for me to think was that this guy was not even parked on the side of the road, just in the middle of the road with no lights on.

Now I was thinking about arguing that it was not my fault but I did drive into him, but he was what the call a hazard as he was in the middle of the road, he had no lights on his black car and it was dark.

I am still shaken up from this and it happened 4 hours ago.

I phoned my wife, and she phoned @wrongjohn who came out to me to make sure I was alright (thanks for this mate :) )

the guys in the shop never asked me if I was ok, the owner of the shop though was really good and said that if there is anything he can do I just need to ask.

I am now thinking that doing this job is not worth the stress and hassle of what I have just been through, I have had many complaints and It is really bogging me down.

The Problem I have is if I don't work I don't get paid, no money makes life really hard.

It sounds to me like you may have been scammed by a couple of thugs. They were probably waiting, with their lights off, for you to back up, and quietly rolled up on you. The fact that their hood friends came from inside the house to harass you only fortifies my suspicion even more.

Even if you did just fail to notice them, you can't let it get you down... Why just today, possibly at the same exact time as you were facing your ordeal, I blew out the engine of the car my friend was lending me until I can get my van back on the road. I knew there was an oil leak, and I should have been checking it every day. But I only ever check it when it starts to act like there's a problem. What's worse, he was really cool about it when I broke the news, so that packs on the guilt even more.
With the exception of fearing for one's life, I think I'd rather be in your shoes. I wouldn't feel at all guilty about damaging a car that was likely stolen, by a bunch of stupid, aggressive savages.

In the end, in either case, it's all stress and we can't let it overwhelm us. Keep your chin up, my friend!

Good thing you made it out in one piece!
