Gökgöl mağarası, bölgenin jeolojik ve hidrolojik yapısını göstermesi açısından oldukça önemli bir mağaradır ve birbirinden farklı dört kattan oluşmaktadır.
Birinci kat mağaranın ilk oluşan kısmıdır. Giriş kısmı ya da ağız kısmı da diyebilirsiniz. Bu bölüm ve ikinci kattaki Büyük Çöküntü Salonu olarak geçen bölüm tamamen fosilleşmiştir.
Mağaranın diğer bölümlerine göre en genç bölümü 3. Ve 4. Katlarda bulunan Damlataşlar Salonu’dur. Burada yer altı deresi ve aktif küçük bir kol bulunur.
3350 metre uzunluğundaki (kolları ile birlikte) mağaranın içinde bulunan yer altı deresi, buradan çıkarak Erçek Deresine dökülür.
Mağara, damlataş birikimi açısından oldukça zengindir. İçerisinde traverten, sarkıt, dikit ve sütunlar bulunmaktadır.
Ayrıca içi dolu damlataş havuzları, mağara gülleri ve mağara iğneleri denen yapılar da yer almaktadır.
Bu mağaranın sadece 875 metresi turizm açısından kullanıma açıktır.
Mağaranın 6 bölümden oluşmaktadır. Bunlar,
• Damlataşlar Galerisi,
• Muhteşem Salon,
• Büyük Çöküntü Salonu,
• Çöküntü Salonu,
• Harikalar Salonu
• Fosil Giriş
Bu alanlarda aydınlatma mevcut olup, yürüyüş alanları, seyir terasları da bulunmaktadır.
Gökgöl Mağarası, Zonguldak-Ankara karayolunun Zonguldak girişinde, yolun sağında yer almaktadır. Zonguldak Merkez sınırları içerisinde bulunmaktadır.
Pazar günleri hariç her gün sabah 9.00-18.00 saatleri arasında ziyarete açıktır.
