Metropolis, Afyonkarahisar ilinin Ayazin köyünün bulunduğu yerde tarih öncesinde kurulmuş bir yerleşim yeridir.
Yerleşimin Frigler döneminden beri kullanıldığı, Roma ve Bizans dönemlerine ait olduğu bilinmektedir.
Yerleşim içerisinde aile ve tek kişilik mezar odaları bulunmuştur. Ayrıca kayanın oyularak yapılması ile oluşan yapı içerisinde kiliseler ve yerleşim alanları da vardır.
Kayanın oyularak yerleşim yeri haline getirilmesi ile içerisinde Avdalaz Kalesi de bulunmaktadır.
Turistik açıdan önemli olan bu bölgede her yıl Turizm şenlikleri düzenlenmektedir.
Frig Vadisi üzerinde bulunan yerleşim yeri içerisindeki kaya evleri Ayazini Kaya Evleri olarak geçmektedir.
Yerleşim yerindeki evlerin bazılarının tek odalı bazılarının üst üste ya da yan yana bitişik şekilde yapıldığı görülmüştür.
Evler içerisinde merdivenle veya tünellerle geçişler vardır.
Odaların içerisinde bazı şekiller, eşya veya aydınlatma amaçlı yapılan nişler vardır.
Oldukça geniş bir alanı kaplayan yerleşim yeri içerisinde Ayazini Evleri, Ayazini Kaya Mezarları, Ayazini Kilisesi ve son olarak da Avdalas Kalesi bulunmaktadır.
Bu yapıların hepsi kayaların oyulması ile yapılmıştır.
