I just got back from a game today and it was not an as easy as we thought it would be. We knew some of our opponent's players from starting five are not playing and we relaxed and almost got punished for it. We started sluggishly and with a with a thought in our head we are going to win this "easy." We beat this team twice already before with all the players accounted for, but today they played better than will all the other players that were missing.
Picked Up A Techinal Today
We finished the half I believe 40-30 for us and struggling to find our rhythm. And honestly, the referees gave them a push to keep the game close. I am not a guy who ever simulates fouls or something like this. But today these guys tried to beat me up and referees let them do it as well. I tried to talk to referees in the normal way to pay attention to what they are doing, but it did not really help at all. But, this usually only makes me play better because it awakens the inner fire in me to compete even harder. So in the 3rd quarter, we broke the game open. And, went ahead by 20 points and the game was over. I heated up and 4 triples that quarter, but got into an argument with the referee and picked up a technical.
source
First, a guy hit me straight in the face when I went for defensive rebound in front of the referee. And the referess said this:
- It was not intentional?????
In which I told him what do you mean it was not intentional? Your job is not to look for unintentional but rather to call foul if you see one. It is not important intentional or not. It is a foul. I let it go until I was in position for an offensive rebound and the guy just ran behind my back and right before I was about to jump elbowed me hard in the back which made fall on the floor. It is not an easy thing to get me on the floor. He hit me, HARD guys. And, again I mean right in front of this referee. From the ground I told him?:
- Are you freaking kidding me? Did you not see that?
He gave me a technical for it. So not only he missed about 5-6 obvious fouls on me today, with the elbow one in my back right in front him, but he decides to give me a technical? And, this happened the attack right after I got hit in the face in defense. Let's just say it pissed me off. And, it is not an easy thing to do. I don't blame the other team fouling. I blame the referees for letting them do it. But, there is only so much beating I can endure. I mean guys this referee was half a meter away when it happened. And, you know what he tells me?
- I did not see it.
Are you freaking kidding me, it happened right in front of your nose? Where in the hell were you looking at? My body is my work and it is your job as it is mine to protect me from this kind of fouls. He again warned me to stop talking but I was not having it. I was pissed. Even my teammates tried to calm me down, but it did not work at all. But, the coach took me out as he saw I was rattled. It was a good choice because I would pick up a second technical and got expelled from the game if I stayed in. But, he put me back a minute later as I cooled down. I just ignored this referee for the rest of the game. And, we closed out the game soon after and won by 30 points. It was the best answer I could give him.
It was not as easy as the score tells it, but being easy or hard, it is the victory which counts. I believe this is a 3rd technical I picked in my career so far. And, I have been playing basketball more than 20 years now. Sometimes I honestly don't know how some of this referees get a license as they can literally decide games with their bad calls. It did not happen today, but I have witnessed it many times in my life. But, unfortunately, bad referees are part of basketball and you have to find a way to win a game no matter how hard they try to make you lose. We moved to 13-4 record for the season and going on the road next week and hopefully we will get win number 14. Life after every one of our wins it was time for 13th team selfie this season. 🏀 💪
Thank you all for reading, have an amazing day, much love,

P.S. If you have not heard about the new amazing discord group called The Steam Engine you should definitely take a look. Amazing group of people helping each other become better Steemians and succeed on Steemit. Plus, of course, have some fun doing it.Take a look, maybe joining this success train will be one of the best decisions you made in 2018. :)
Oh my god that referee does not sound up to the job at all, was it a friendly match did you think people might have it in for you??
I love the baseball game but I forget that it is still a dangerous sport, I remember when I was at school someone threw the ball to me and I caught it the impact bent my thumb the wrong way, ended up with it pointing the wrong way. I took one look and fainted, next thing I am in the sick room on the bed with the school nurse saying "It's ok sweetie I popped it back in while you were under." I don't think I played since. :D

Not at all, friend. He lost control of the game. People complaining on both sides. And, instead of making better calls he gave out 4 more technicals. 1 more to our team and 2 to the other.
Now it was a regular championship game. These were just bad refs making bad calls. Every sport has it dangers but basketball is worth a little danger. It has given me a lot in life. More than I can ever give back to it really. :)
Ahhh the jammed fingers, fingers out of place, injuries. Let's just say I been there and done that. One year I dived for the ball on the floor and when I was getting up the guys stepped on my thumb and it shared every single bone in it. I had to have reconstructive surgery on it or I would be able to move it. 6 months off from playing any basketball from it. It is just a side-effect of playing basketball. lol

Congrats on another win! Your team is seriously smoking hot!!! Sorry the referee was such a jerk, not paying attention or calling fouls on the other team. An elbow to the face should definitely have been called a foul!
Sometimes, it feels like you are playing against the ref more than the other team. I've seen it here with local sports....makes me wonder if the ref was paid not to pay attention or make certain calls...

He was not a good ref at all. And, I can feel it today as there is a pretty sizeable bruise on my back from the elbow I got. But, we won. My body will heal itself. :)
I am sure refs being paid off happened in the best and still happening, unfortunately. That is also one sad side of sports as well. But I don't think he was in this game. He was just being a very bad ref last night.

I'm glad to hear that the game ended in success, @awakentolife, but oh man, it sounds like a nightmare of injustice. Unfortunately, it seems there is some bad refereeing in all sports. I'm glad your Coach had the good sense to pull you out for a bit to let you cool down. Getting your mind refocused brought you back to Warrior status, and you won your justice in the end.
I think it is so cool that a common person like myself can have a personal interaction with a pro sports player like yourself. You keep it real, and share your life with the world on Steemit just like any other guy. Not only that, you are very active as a leader and mentor in Discord Servers.
You are respected as a person because you don't elevate yourself above all the rest of us just because you make your living playing a sport. Maybe you do have a fan base as a player, but I think you have a larger fan base here as a human being.
I've upvoted and resteemed this article as one of my daily post promotions for the @mitneb Curation Trail Project. It will be featured in the @mitneb Curation Trail Project Daily Report for 27 FEB 2018.
Cheers!

It really was. And, unfortunately, games like this with these kinds of referees are not an uncommon thing, and sometimes they literally decide the outcomes of the game.
I am glad coach took me out as well as I was upset and would probably pick up a second technical if I stayed in the game. And, I am glad I cooled myself down, and we came out with a win in the end. :)
I think it is amazing that I met so many amazing people like you here on Steemit which encourage me to keep writing and sharing my stories. I don't see myself "above" anybody and I never will.We are the same and we all deserve respect and kindness from each other. And, it all starts with the comment like yours on my post. It is actually my pleasure to getting to know people like you on this amazing platform. You have truly made my Steemit journey an amazing journey. I truly appreciate it. :)
It should not make a difference how we make a living in life. If its sports or any other way. We all have our paths in life. And none should be above other as we are human beings just trying to enjoy this gift we call life. I am happy to share my life stories with you guys. I enjoy interacting with everybody and getting to know everybody. It is the greatest thing about Steemit. :)
Thank you for an upvote and resteem and for placing my post in your curation. I truly appreciate it. You are awesome and I wish you the best day ever @mitneb. :)

I know you were fired up during the writing of this post, but I couldn't help but crazy up throughout--cuz I can't imagine @awakentolife getting a technical! Hahaha
I agree, bad refs can change the whole game. It's almost as if there's another competitor to beat. But I'm glad you guys won.
It would be so awesome to see a game. You should post video!

hahah trust me it does not happen often. I believe this is 3rd technical I got in more than 20 years now of playing basketball. lol Not an easy thing to do to rattle me up to get technical. But, he only damaged the other team really as when I get mad like that I play better for some reason. It is that competitive spirit in me I guess. I finished the game with 31 points. So the joke is on him. lol
Bad refs can be a huge difference. Sadly a difference between winning and losing a game.
I am glad we won as well. I will ask the coaches for the tape of the game if they filmed it. But, I have some highlights on Youtube I can share so you guys can see me play. :)

i am not a pro player like yourself, I play futsal in amateur tournaments, and after every game we are so passionate (curse a lot) when we analyze the game (blame everyone but ourselves), I see, those emotions are the same in the pro world. Congrats on the victory, and I am bit jelaous. I think every boy at one point wants to play pro sports for living. ;)

Of course, there are same emotions. No matter if they are professional or amateur sports. Honestly, I am kind of a person who is always his first critic. And, after this game, I knew I did the right thing. Because first I tried to talk to him in the normal way to pay attention to what these guys are doing. I tried 3-4 times. Then first guys hit me in the face and he tells me it was not intentional and to top all off I get elbowed in the back hard with him seeing it and not calling anything. I am a tolerant guy but at the end of the day, I did what I had to do to protect my body as it is what I live from.
Thank you for the congrats. Playing pro sports has it advantages no doubt. Basketball gave me way more than I can ever give back to it. But, it is a rough "businesses" sometimes and people look at you like you are a robot. Replaceable. But, it sure has way more advantages than disadvantages for me and I still enjoy playing it. :)

I read your story about your mother finally pounding on you after a hard day at the war ... and I have to say I sympathize with the poor woman. Still, she took a pretty good kid and raised a fine man from those inauspicious beginnings. So I gave you an upvote on it ... and I gave you one, here, too.
Your other post was too old when I tried to get you some extra votes on it, so I stuck 'em on here. I'm sure you'll manage to spend them. Patch those bullet holes in your house, for crying out loud. I haven't got all day. And I still sympathize with your mother. Like me, she sounds like a living saint. Neither of us has had an easy life. For different reasons.

I thought you might sympathize with her and you should. She did not have an easy job, but she did one heck of a job under the circumstances. She is amazing. :)
Thank you for all the upvotes and support. You are amazing as well. And, don't you forget it. :)
Patching up is resuming this summer when I get home. And, I am very much looking forward to it. I actually have one more progress report to post I saved on the phone before I left but never got around to it. So many posts waiting for me to be written. Will get around to it very soon. :)
Have the best day ever, my amazing friend. :)

Sounds like a tough game in the end you won which is also a good thing. Is this usual over there sounds like it is similar to here?

It is not always like this, but then you do often run into these kinds of referees, and you just have to find a way to win anyway. I am glad we did. :)
