My Life's Journey - My Brother's Nikola "adventure" to Iceland And A Search For A Better Life - Part 1

Iceland

What can I say, my amazing Steemian friends, my brother has gone on one big adventure in his life. I took guts to make such a big decision and just pack his bags and fly to Iceland in search of a better life. To be honest, I was worried about how it all turned out, but once he got there I just felt it was the right decision. The way he was talking about people just being very polite and trying to help him in any way they can, it just felt like he is in the right place. Even though he was miles from home. And, my friends, after about 6 days of long walks, applying to any job he could find, my brother has struck "gold." His gamble has paid off, and he is turning a new page in his life as we speak.

He actually met some Croatian people working there for a couple of years now.

It might seem he got the job easy, but it is far from the truth. He spent a lot of money just to get there because the ticket was not cheap at all. He had to pay for the hostel for 12 days, and for the food. It quickly added up to a significant sum of money. He literally scoured the city looking for jobs for days with no luck. It did not look great at one point at all. He was spending too much money with no job in sight. He applied to many jobs online, but with no luck for 6-7 days.

Go And Get It

The best decision he made was the day he decided to go to a place where he applied for a job over the internet. He literally just walked into to the company and asked if he would talk to the boss of the company about the job ad they had advertised online. I think him showing up there just to talk about it showed determination. But, he kept telling me the people there were so nice to him when he showed up there out of the bloom. Even the boss, even though he showed up 30 min before they are about to close their operation. He had a meeting with the boss for about 20 minutes in which he told him he would call him back if he has a job for him.

While he was waiting for the call, he kept searching for other jobs. He went to another interview in between at Coca-cola company which actually does not produce Coca-Cola but beer. lol Go figure that out, guys. hehe Great company no doubt, but the job was only for the summer season. Which means if they do not offer him a full-time job offer after he will be again looking for a job soon. He was looking for a more permanent situation and a steady permanent job. But, heck he would take anything at the moment. At both places, people were super nice to him. Gotta love that about Iceland people. It may be snowy and cold in Iceland, but their hearts sure seemed to be very warm. ❤️

Life Changing Phone Call

And, here comes the phone call and the first step toward my brother's journey to a better life. He got a phone call from a boss where he just showed up and asked to talk to the boss of the company. He was calling him to inform him that he got the job and he should come for his first day of work in 3 days. My brother always loved working with his hands and particularly on cars, but he never got a good chance to pursue this interest. So he got a job at the auto mechanic shop and he will be assisting and learning in any jobs required from him to help at first.

He was so happy guys, and I can sense it in his voice when he talked. Not only it pays good, much better than in Croatia, but he keeps telling me he is just happy to go to work. He is loving it actually. And, honestly, my friend I can't describe to you how happy I am that he is happy. He truly deserved this break in his life. He deserved happiness, and I hope from this point on things will get even better for him in the future. I am sure he will make the best out of the opportunity he has been given, and I think his boss will soon see he did not make a mistake by taking a chance on him. Because he is a great person, with a good heart, and he works his butt off.

Final Words

What to say really, guys? My brother probably took one of the biggest gambles in his life. He quit his job, flew all the way across Europe to Island out of all places, with just hope in his heart, and it has paid off. That takes some big heart, and courage to do. But, it has paid off in a big way thanks to him and honestly the kindness of Icelandic people who have been incredibly helpful and polite to him through the entire process.

He had a little message for his fiance written in the sand. Hopefully, she will visit him soon as well when he settles in.

Maybe there is a message for all of us here we need to learn? It is NEVER too late to change our life? It is never too late to pursue your dreams? It is never too late to start building the life you WANT to live? And, it is never too late to work toward your hopes and dreams even if it means flying to Iceland to a city and people you know nothing about. My brother's decision and courage has thought us all a big lesson of life and it goes like this:

IT IS NEVER TOO LATE!!!!!

Thank you all for reading, have a blessed day, much love,

This is wonderful news @awakentolife! Such a big step and chance to take by moving to a new country with prospects of work, place to live and with no friends. This is life changing, I hope soon his Nera and puppy will be joining him :) We sold our home, most of our possessions and moved to a new state where we knew no one about 2 years ago, it was a bit lonely for a while but in the 2nd year we began feeling like we had a nice group of friends. It's is scary, but if you believe and have faith, anything is possible! Blessings to you and your family :) Such a great story with a happy ending!

Good for him! A big step indeed. I wonder why he chose Iceland? Though I can see it would be a good choice, as I visited the country with my friends in 2014, and it really is a special place. We found people very friendly there, and we'd all love to return some day. Good luck to your brother in his new job and country.

Wow! Not catching up with any reading and landing with this awesome piece (even though a little late) still pays off.

Your brother really made a bold step that no one I know could have done that (these days) , except decades ago when my high-school best friend just took a bus and went to the next country to look for a job. And at that time Internet just started.

Wishing him all the best in this new life of his and hope his fiancé will soon join him in this new life together
