Can't a girl just have a day off?

in blog •  7 years ago

Today, I just took the day off. For the last month, I didn't have a single day where I could just sleep in and be lazy. There was just no time for that and every day was just a huge rush.

Last week, I was chatting to @giantbear about everything that I still have to do before the school starts. One of the things that we didn't need to worry about in the UAE, was buying lots and lots of school supplies. This is new to me and I'm not a fan of playing hide and seek with stationary in a shopping mall with lots of others looking for the same things, so she said:

"Why don't you just buy it online and have it delivered?"

I would have thought of that, but I didn't, so her brilliant plan got me clicking away.

Now, I know what you're thinking! How bad can it be to just go shopping early, throw the stuff into a trolley, pay for it and go! Right?

WRONG!

I don't like malls! I don't like grocery shopping! I don't like shopping!!! And yes, I AM a woman.
I have far more better things to do than hang out in a mall so I normally just go if I really really really have to go.

Getting back to the point...

Every day, I wake up, have coffee, clean the house, get the kids ready for the day, hang the laundry and then spend about 2-3 hours putting my face on (that includes getting the curly hair straight). I am then ready to set foot out the door when I need to. If someone shows up, I'm ready. If we run out of milk, I'm ready.
But not today!

Today, I woke up at about 9 am and lay in bed to about 9:50. I stood up, made the kids some cereal after being nagged about it and then plumped down on the sofa with hot coffee instead of cold like the other days. I had no plan to get rid of my pajamas, to comb my hair or to even brush my teeth...and then it happened!

The delivery man hooted at the gate!

Are you #*@#& kidding me?

I expected him tomorrow!!!!!!!

I spilled most of my coffee over myself from the shock of the loud hooter outside, then couldn't exactly keep my balance while running, NO, sliding on my socks to my room to find something to cover myself with. Needless to say, I couldn't find anything but I actually thought of covering my "make-up-less" face (if that isn't a word, then it should be) with a plastic bag before opening the door.

Feeling like an old rag, no bra and full of wet coffee stains, I opened the door. He must have thought I was crazy clinging to my clothes and trying to cover up everything on me with just two hands, but luckily, within two minutes, it was over.

If only I had learned my lesson then and just did something with myself after that!

But NO...

After the second uninvited guest turned up, it had to be done.

Murphy isn't very kind on a girl's day off, that's for sure.

I feel your pain! Nothing worse than not being presentable and someone showing up unannounced.

Yeah! What on earth have we done to this world to deserve it? LOL
Except for eating one too many apples, I guess.

Ha! I feel ya, I am so the same! Down to the deeply rooted shopping hatred.

Any that is exactly how it goes. The day you decidefπ¢k it, I ain't doing shite! is the one day you end up, after finally laying down that night, wishing you would have!

Hug!

Phew, I'm glad I'm not the only one.
Thanks for your comment, much appreciated.

We need to stop trying to be “perfect”.... we are missing the point: enjoy life!
We have so much social pressure to be miss I can do it all that we end up piling up a mountain of responsibilities on us that most of the time only WE care about.... nobody else will see if there is a bit of dust in the house, or if the kids’ clothes are not perfectly ironed.....
Let’s stop wanting to get to everything and start actually prioritizing what is really important in life.
Thanks for your post ;))

Hi @christellemoore. Thanks for your comment. I definitely can't disagree with you. There are far more important things. It's just easier to say it than to actually do it...for me, that is.

Being the lady of the house is a very tough job indeed

I understand what you are saying -
