As a teenager growing up in southwest Philadelphia in the 1970s, Bill Schoening bought countless 45s for 85 cents a pop at Jolly Records on Woodland Avenue.

“I loved music from the time I was a little kid, so whenever I had a spare buck I’d go down there,” he said. “I grew up on the Philly soul stuff, The Stylistics, Teddy Pendergrass. Teddy was lead singer of a band called Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, so that was one of the first 45 records I bought.”
