Nothing in excess is ever a good thing.
This also includes the sense of pride. What makes pride negative is simply because it focuses on the ego and self at the expense of the congregation.
To much applauds and praise can expands an individual's ego and builds a thirst for external validation. We'll experience a hard time with self-motivation and find it difficult to be successful if we relent solely on the praises and applauds of others for motivation. Nevertheless, undeserved praises can get one into the bad habit of boasting to extort praise.
Basically, those with too much pride and egotism will evolve a sense of dominance and superiority over others. It's absolutely impossible for a proud being to seek for help from other individuals, and this could make their life pathetic and miserable. As a result of this, we generally don't like to be surrounded with those who are arrogant and proud.
Moreover, pride doesn't have to be bad all the time, it's quite healthy to receive and give praise to someone who did a job well done. Don't get it twisted, don't mix appreciation with pride. Pride is simply the attitude of the individual after he has been applauded by others, how he behaves then shows if he's proud or not. Essentially, as long as people admit praise with a balance of humility and pride, there's absolutely nothing wrong with being known of doing a job well done.
