Time for media fasting

Hello Steemians, hope everyone is well.

I was thinking about this today after listening to some news for a little while. It's just incredible the amount of negativity the news media presents every day. It makes me understand why so many people are living their days thinking that life is no good, that nothing is worth it.

img src

Believe me that is not the worst aspect of this, the worst part is that people love sharing the bad news. If you are on any mainstream social media you get almost attacked with them. Political scandals, wars, crime, you name it, every day with no breaks.

It makes me wonder if the solution to some of that stress we feel is to schedule some time to disconnect, to do something completely different for some time. Maybe play your instrument, spend some time friend or family, something different from consuming this negative information.

I remember some years ago reading an article about the psychological impact of social media on people, the negative aspects. Of course I know social media is the future, but just like everything in life, balance is very important, and that is exactly what people don't seem to have.

It's friday night, a week of hard work is behind me and I'm going to do right by me and relax a little tonight.

Wishing you all the best as always

Dear sir!
Media is the mirror of reality.Whatever news is shown by the media, we follow the truth.Media also has the obligation to raid the truth with fearlessness, because the public's confidence in the media is very high.Presently media, social media is full of such useless news, they have nothing to do with reality. Only TRPs are going on to increase sparks. No one wants to say truth or no one wants to hear.
Regards

I understand and agree with you. I live in the media and I know they seek sensationalism because it gives more audience. I just do not understand why people watch. Sometimes I think that even though we're in 2018 people act as if they were in the coliseum watching men being devoured by lions and finding it wonderful. Unfortunate! Regards...

Media is reflected reality, which is full of uselessness. Nobody wants to hear the truth, then why are people watching the news?

I have been practicing for almost 30 years in all media. I can assure you that 90% of what comes out in the media is manipulated because every TV, radio, or press media has a tendency and will always defend them through its professionals who broadcast the news. I am referring to many countries that things work this way but there are countries that this is much worse because they are still governed by dictators and it is only transmitted what they want and the way they want it to be. The truth we only know when we travel many countries, and we see things closely. I have met incredible people here at steemit and we have exchanged many experiences from different cultures and so far it has happened in a very respectful way and it pleases me a lot. Regards

No wonder the kind of news that goes viral in Africa are news of war, hunger and all negative vices of various scales and magnitude so that they can keep Africans believing that without foreign aid we can not grow.
The the social media still has its positive side. I am able to communicate with like minded people around the world because it.
Regards

That's right, my friend, each of us must sow positivism and respect every day and you can believe that we are the majority. Just see in the posts that have 100 positive comments and 1 or 2 negatives. This is statistic to not let us forget that we are the majority and always will be. You are good person! Regards

Gone are the Days when the Media used to show reality to the world.
Gone are the Days when the media person lost their lives for showing truth and fighting with the public for Justice.
Now all they want is TRPs and advertisements.
A 30 minute news bulletin shows advertisement breaks after every 5 to 7 minutes.
A single statement said by some Politician or a celebrity will be displayed several times with lots of lots of Question marks ? ? ? ? ? ? Will US attack North Korea ? will the war begin ? Is the White House unhappy? etc etc etc.... In reality none of these questions would have either been said or heard when the news was collected.....

I feel that people spend hours watching the news because they like the Question marks ? ? ? not the news. The news watchers will never get answers to these Question marks but they still watch the news again n again n again...

Excellent comment my friend, I have nothing to add. Thank you for sharing your insight with everyone here. Regards

Disconnecting is great as it serves to recharge the batteries and appreciate time with the family and oneself.

This is the reality and we have to accept this. We can’t stop this fake or bad news on social media but if the viewer or watcher of that content should we a thinker and should think about that what they are reading. I left using social media platform like Facebook, Instagram and others. Yes I still have accounts on that platform but I didn’t them. Because I don’t think that they have any importance in my life.

The perfect thing is sir,if you look at this kind of news social media, then you are out of social media and you have played with your family at home and have played with friends. It is all right.

Exactly! Very good!

Well, to some extent the negativities and pessimistic feelings tend to be addictive, there are many people who simply can not stop seeing the bad of the world, although that is just a bad habit that can be corrected with will.

Life has both the good and the bad side, but finally it is one that decides with which one it remains.

Exactly friend! Great words! Regards

Hi @chbartist , media is playing an important role in every society. It is highlighting the truth. Many hidden truths are reveled by media. But on the other hand there are negative roles played. These negative roles forces us to switch of news channels. Sometimes media breaks unnecessary and negative news only for ratings.
There are plenty of bad news are live on media channels. Which impact bad on people's mind as a result they feel anxiety which damage health to some extent. So in short media is playing positive as well as negative role.
Thanks @chbartist , appreciate your concern with community.looking forward to your next post. Have a good day from @coolguy222

Thank you friend for every comment with great words! Good see you again!

Hi @chbartist ideally media should share only reallity with people but now a days due to TRP and personal benefits most of the media channels manipulate it. Its not a good practise. Have a grt weekend friend.

It's not about objective reporting these days, it's about subtlely reporting on opinions, which is a shame and turning many ppl away from traditional media

Agree with you my friend @kjnkp

You too my friend!

A lot of positive and negative roles media is delivering in society but we should hear only positive news. Ignore negativity because it can affect health. It depends on us that how we take it. So be happy and cheers

Cheers Friend! Good see you!

I hate to say it is even worse in India. They keep repeating the nagative news and do not intend to spread the positive news at all.
I think it is the people’s mindset as well. Minds are so fucked up they are attracted to evil thoougts.
Media shows what they want to show and the intention is to brainwash people so that people can be controlled , manipulated and are taken away freedom.

I understand friend and unfortunately this happens almost all over the world today in all media ways.

Yes in a more sophisticated and diplomatic way in western world

You are saying "balance between social media and life is very important ". I like it. Because it is very important to know the truth with social media.Because there are so many fake news feeds on social media. So know the truth.
I resteemed your post because I like it.

Thank you friend!

Wishing you same, negative information seem to sell the most that is why the social media is bombarded with it. Let us take an hypothetical example -300 women gave birth to healthy babies yesterday and the doctors predicted that these children will be very strong, almost like superhumans and they would be strong up till their old age- That is a great positive news. On the other hand, let us see a hypothetical negative news. - 300 women gave birth yesterday in a village hospital, there was an animal attack last night on the hospital, 50 of the babies were eaten by lion, 50, were swallowed by huge pythons, and 50 were trampled upon as a result of stampede of people trying to escape from the scene- Such kind of negative news is going to make headlines throughout the world and be the talk of the day for over a month.
I think the problem is how we respond to negative news that is why those who wants to gain more media attention will spend more energy in searching for negative news to post than positive once

Agree @unclefz. Great words!

Mainstream media has become a bombardment of other ppl's opinions, instead of unbiased fact-based reporting. It's a shame.

I agree with you, the truth is that people usually see is the bad of things and not the good, I will not generalize and I will say that all but in its great majority for what I have seen, it would be good to see that In this world you see more good things than bad, that is, having a balance when you give the news or give some news of people from everyday life, greetings, it is always good to read your post.

Thank you @franz54 for you time!

Hello chbartist, you have rightly said, maintaining balance is very important , today media is influencing our lives to very extent, we should maintain a distance from false propaganda of media in order to save ourselves psychologically from the bad effects of social media.
Thanks

Exactly my friend, thank you for your comment. Regards

Thanks a lot sir

Nice. I follow you

You are welcome!

Hi @chbartist, it's good to take a break from social media once in a while.

Personally, I don't think any news can affect or change me physiologically as I've read so many in the past. I'm not an emotional person and hardly get emotional with some of these negative news like those of murder, rape etc.

Posted using Partiko Android

I understand my friend but somehow it affects the collective and this ends up reflecting on everyone even if we are strong so certain things do not affect us like other people. Regards

The media seems to get more out of negative news than positive news. Last month I published about that ... I like to post positive things, because that has a great influence on our lives, even though people believe that it does not affect them at all. I hope you enjoyed your Friday! 😊

That is exactly it, if the media were in another direction we would have a society lighter and with much less stress. Thx!

great post as always... thanks for the informative post always.. @chbartist

Thank you!

Agree! Regards!

Time to disconnect is important. It is difficult because sometimes we become over-involved, without realizing it. It's always good to take a step back and reflect, and focus on the more important things. I hope you enjoy your relax time!

Thank you!

Social media has become an important part of our lives but we should limit the time we spend on it and meet people in person instead of the virtual world.
And there is a slight error in the third paragraph.
"Maybe play your instrument, spend : some time friend friend : or family, something different from consuming this negative information."
Thought you'd like to know. 🙂

Thank you!

It is relative, sometimes it is important to know what is happening in the world to be prepared for anything and sometimes it is better not to know anything at all and be calm even if the world falls apart.

Agree!

I agree with you, a break every once in a while wouldn't be bad...such break can be used to discover ones self

I think there was something on here called unplug. As for the news, it's indeed not conducive to a optimistic outlook, if it's not sex, it's murder or scandals, but I don't think that's the reason so many people think life's not good, I think it has to do with the struggle of keeping a roof over their heads, of dealing with loss and sickness, of keeping food on the table.

Posted using Partiko Android

I understand what you mean and I especially agree on the bad news. I particularly don't like watching the news because it depresses us. So I always try to use my time to work, to be talking to nice people and I try to surround myself with these positive things. Regards

  ·  6 years ago (edited)

It doesn't depress people who have to worry about food and shelter every day, it probably doesn't concern them at all what's on the news, many aren't afforded the leisure time to watch the news. The most depressing thing about Steem is seeing people who subvert the system designed with the thought that it will help those very same people be used to build up whales by buying votes which are supposed to be free. It's nice that their curation rewards go to those 600+ one cent votes but there is a reason why no big or influential account supports you and the only support that you get is from bought votes and the people who don't know any better than to respond to someone who would rather be petty:

Screenshot_2018-10-13-09-43-21.jpg

(Lol that 25% was too much for me, you might as well remove that 10% because I've told you before that I don't want or care for your votes, only for the opportunity each one of your comments and posts affords me)

And they respond simply to get a couple cents while you spend hundreds paying whales to vote for you. All that money goes into the pockets of people who are actively devaluing the environment they are part of, and the cents land on people who can't even be considered to add value since they feel pressured to suck up to you as the only way to earn on here directly because they will never be able to spend hundreds of dollars on a hundred word trite post.

Friend, I try to high level of dialogue with you but it seems impossible because you always see things in a negative way. I know people with this profile and I can assure you that it will not help you in your life. Could you show me the opposite of what I seem to be? Once more I'll tell you: Peace, see things on the bright side, it seems to me that you always think that you are being persecuted or a victim of something. Sorry if I may be interpreting your words and wrong form because the written word is cold and has no intonation or expression as if we were talking face to face. I have already said and I repeat that I wish the best for everyone including you but unfortunately you want to see what you want to see and do not understand what I am doing here because it is closed in on your way of seeing things. Regards

Stop the charade, a friend doesn't dismiss a friend with " thanks for your time". A friend doesn't do that when the other friend tells them "hey what you're doing is wrong, and it's hurting me and everyone else".

You cannot raise the level of dialogue because you yourself said you're completely ok with butchering the English language by saying that you'd not pursue literacy.

You can profile me by your cacaphonic standards, I'm not bothered to listen to your advice.

The opposite of what you are is me, and everyone who has not tried to cheat here from day one. You tried to appear popular without actually putting in the effort to become popular, instead you bought your votes. Votes which are supposed to be given freely, and in the above pic your pettiness is evident for everyone to see, you cannot deny your obvious lack of character. To show you the opposite of you, for your benefit, would be quite futile because you'd rather not invest time in polishing your literacy but would rather debase the language in admitted intent to be "popular with the illiterate", so for me to show you the opposite of you, first you'd have to aquire the tools with which you could appreciate what that is.

I'm a victim of your and other's vote buying. Your bought for votes are hurting this place and like your attitude, it doesn't hold a bright side, because you're very selfish and despite the constant denial through your post of this selfishness and your attested altruism and concern for the community you continue the same behavior which seeks to make you look popular or that you've impressed even one large stake holder on here, but you've not, you paid for 90 percent of your votes and your duplicitous language of "friend" is attesting to your character and how detestable you have to be to resolve anything that isn't agreeable to your view as judgementally labeling "I know people of your profile" and "you play the victim" or "toxic people".

You can call me "closed" in seeing things because after all you are doing the great work of selling bullshit which begins with selling the exposure you have as earned and deserved. You don't deserve it and no matter how much money you spend on buying votes, you'll never earn it, you'll never have a veteran Steemian support you with your insolated world view and the recoiling attitude of "friend thank you for your time". Real people recognize real people, and all your followers and their regurgitated bullshit exists ONLY because they want your pity votes.

I don't think you are interpreting my words wrong, the problem is that you instinctually dismiss and recoil from any kind of criticism, as you have done from the very first day on here when people (I assume) told you, hey, that's not how you become popular and that's not how you earn support on here, but you more than likely said "you don't know anything, I've been a guitarist for 30 years and an entrepreneur since I was suckling fro my mom" and instead of listening to what the veterans on the platform said you dismissed them, as you've dismissed all the criticism if you've not outright tried to flip it on me.

I don't have time and I have enough sanity to not talk with walls. Unfortunately you didn't understand anything! No way! I really tried! Success!

You called me a wall after telling me that you know the type of person I am but you hardly have anything to speak on me about yet you tried? Get out, you don't want to hear anything that is critical of you and your actions and this demonstrated that once again.
