The Internet Is Filled With "How To Guides" By People Who Never Did Anything

Oh there is nothing like doing it yourself? Do you like to do it yourself? Everyone seems to know how to do it themselves these days. All you need to do is hit up Google type in "How to" + Query and boom you'll get detailed instructions, blogs, vlogs, articles about how to do any specific task you can think of, the internet is filled with free information, some of it useful some of it not worth your bandwidth.

That's where I find myself today, how much of an emphasis we place on free information vs quality information. When we couple this with the fact that most people were never taught how to use a search engine properly or learned how it works you're going to end up becoming misinformed.

Everyone is an authority

In today's online landscape it takes very little to be an authority on a subject you just need to be willing to create the content and eventually the views will follow. You've got people who don't know a carrot from cabbage but they're food bloggers or foodies.

Writing about how it is to eat something and not actually prepare it, yet they are seen as experts. How are you an expert in being the consumer? Wouldn't I want to learn from the person who made the dish rather than the person who simply ordered and ate the dish?

There re YouTuber's with huge channels that get millions of views and all they do is tape their reaction to content, not even their opinion or very little more than a generic opinion but more just how they reacted to watching content and we see this as adding value to the content? How? I don't get how reaction videos are even so popular.

It's probably one of the most random trends ever, It would make sense if you were a serial troller or some sort of expert on the topic but no, just an ordinary person in their bedroom watching old vines from 2014 with their headphones on laughing at it.

Categorise your content

I realise that quality is objective and people find enjoyment in all sorts of weird and wonderful things on the internet but seriously can we stop turning our attention to lowest common denominator easily created content and focus on people who actually own their craft? That does something unique?

Are we that desperate for free entertainment that we're willling to make just about anyone famous for no reason?
