Day 90: Announcement

in blog •  7 years ago

Hi again everyone!

So as you know, I've been doing a challenge to do an upload every day this year. It's been 90 days, which is, conveniently, exactly 3 months, and I've gotta make an announcement.

I can't keep up with a post every day. Thinking of all these new topics to write about is just too much for me, and I won't be able to manage. It's taken too much time, too much effort, and I can hardly focus on anything else now.

Instead, for the rest of the year, I'll be doing 3 posts a week, and to save myself having to think of a topic, they'll all be about cabbage. I'll write reviews on different farms, and the growing conditions of their cabbages; I'll compare different varieties of cabbage, and their effectiveness in certain recipes; I'll talk about cabbages throughout history, and why they've declined in popularity in recent years; things of that nature. If possible, I'll also look into changing the name of my account from CorybralCortex to CorybralCabbage.

Today, I'll be talking about two of my favourite cabbage-based recipes- namely, cabbage soup and cabbage rolls.

Ever since I was a kid, cabbage soup has been one of my favourite dishes. It probably helps that I have some Polish ancestry, but my dad's ability to cook certainly doesn't hurt. The recipe we make is based on roux, as well as vinegar, along with carrots and potatoes to thicken it, some bacon for flavour, and of course, a lot of cabbage. Cabbage soup is one of those rare meals that actually gets better with time- when it's fresh, the vinegar flavour is a bit strong, but after a night in the fridge, it soaks in to the other ingredients better, which helps soften them a bit, as well as regulating the flavours. It's also one of those foods that I can eat without restraint- I can have (and have, in the past, had) 4 bowls or more of it for dinner alone, along with a couple more bowls for both breakfast and lunch. With something like spaghetti, on the other hand, I'd struggle to have more than two.

Cabbage rolls are another food I really enjoy- maybe even more than the soup, though it's very tough to say. This might be due to the fact that I don't have them often. Cabbage soup is generally reserved for holidays, birthdays, or other special occasions- cabbage rolls, on the other hand, are almost exclusively made when my grandma comes to visit, which is, unfortunately, not very often (as she lives rather far away). As of this post, I regret to say that my dad's attempts at making them haven't quite lived up to my (admittedly high) expectations, though to his credit, I've heard rumours that he's gotten better in the time I've been away. Regardless, cabbage rolls are one of my favourite foods, and they're just as good fresh as they are cold.

Anyways, that's gonna be it for today- I'll be writing another post on Tuesday about unusual applications of cabbages in Western culture, and on Thursday I'll be discussing how cabbages played a role in the fall of the Roman Empire.

Hopefully you've enjoyed this post!

Omg xD You had me fooled until you started talking about cabbages. (Oh, but make sure to mention that post I was once sent, on cabbages as pets.)

Heh heh heh, that was my plan :D I wanted to start it off believably, then throw in something so strange and uninteresting that nobody could believe I was actually gonna manage that many blogs on it, but then put enough of a post after that it would leave a bit of doubt ;)
(I'm sorry, cabbages as pets?? Why does this not sound familiar)

(I don't know, Keith/Kat once sent me a picture asking me if it was true that teenagers were walking their pet cabbages in China. I thought I told you?)
