The cryptocurrency world began in 2009, and it started with the creation of Bitcoin. This revolutionary technology has not only opened up a new form of currency worldwide, but it also has introduced blockchain technology to the world. So, who created this?
Well, no one really knows. Yes, it is as simple as that. One of the most revolutionary technological creations has no verified creator. Why not take any credit for such a significant creation?
The Bitcoin creation was released with a document named Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System. It contains all the information about the cryptocurrency, and it is signed by Satoshi Nakamoto. Besides this name, no one knows who Nakamoto is.
According to Digital Trends, “Nakamoto also communicated with users via email for a few years after the software’s release but has not been involved with Bitcoin since 2011”.
There have been many media allegations about who this mysterious Bitcoin creator is. In 2014, Newsweek pointed at Dorian Prentice Satoshi Nakamoto a Japanese-American living a humble life in California. The man claimed he had nothing to do with Bitcoin.
Digitaltrends states that "The day after the Newsweek piece ran, a comment from the original Satoshi Nakamoto on P2P posted simply - I am not Dorian Nakamoto.”
Since then the article released by Newsweek has been modified stating that, “This story has been appended to include a statement from Dorian Nakamoto received on March 19th when Newsweek was first contacted directly by Mr. Nakamoto's attorney, denying his role in Bitcoin”.
Another person claiming to be Satoshi Nakamoto is Craig Wright, an Australian entrepreneur who has publicly identified himself as Bitcoin’s creator. In 2016 BBC had a meeting with Wright, "At the meeting with the BBC, Mr. Wright digitally signed messages using cryptographic keys created during the early days of Bitcoin's development. The keys are inextricably linked to blocks of bitcoins known to have been created or "mined" by Satoshi Nakamoto."
Whether you believe Craig Wright is the creator of Bitcoin or any other person or group who may have invented this digital currency have their reasons to remain in the shadows.
There may be various reasons why Nakamoto doesn't want his identity revealed. First of all, it must be pretty overwhelming to create a digital currency that has become popular worldwide. Its decentralized network goes against what we are accustomed to by banks. Maybe it's not a good idea to anger the banking system, or perhaps the person or people want their privacy.
"With anonymity, people can be free to express unpopular ideas and be critical of people in power without risking retaliation or opprobrium," states Nytimes. Many times, anonymity is used for the wrong reasons, like cyberbullying. Not being able to have anonymity may shut down many people from expressing themselves, WikiLeaks would not have happened for that matter. In the case of bitcoin creation, I guess we will still be kept in the dark as to who this mystery person is.

It may not be a popular opinion but I've always thought that a cryptographic intelligence agency created bitcoin. Or at least, some of the codebase behind it. Especially considering the wealth of knowledge (mathematical, philosophical, economic, cryptographic) required to create such a thing.
The inital commits by Nakamoto were nearing 20,000 lines of clean, precise code. Just doesn't seem reasonable for one person to have done as a pet project over time.
