Washing hands with soap and water have been a great precaution in order to stop growing bacteria and to stop spreading diseases. Some people are not considering how important the use of soap and water clean hands before and after meal. The lack of awareness of how and why hand washing is important is certainly spoiling health of many people, especially children.

A significant number of catastrophic diseases can develop from one person to other by contaminated hands. Few diseases with the lack of this awareness cause Chlamydia, Hepatitis A, Influenza, Salmonella, which may alleviate or limit to certain extent through an appropriate hand washing at necessary times.

A thorough hand washing should include rubbing hands, scrubbing all surfaces including hands, wrists, between the fingers and under the fingernails (WHO, n.d), Ideally it should last around 20 seconds but even only 15 seconds of soap and water hand washing, can reduce bacterial counts by approximately 90% (Harvard Health Publications, 2007). When finish hand washing in a public bathroom, it is a good idea to turn off the faucet with a disposable towel or tissue because it is likely to contain germs. Source

Thanks for the info. I agree that we certainly all should be mindful of keeping our hands clean. Especially if someone is working in the food service industry...please :)

Yes, I agree with this. Proper cleaning of hands are very important to prevent from various infections and diseases. Sanitizer is a good way of preventing germs but if you add Luke warm water to it then its efficiency will increase.

Thank you @dcrypto! I'm a washer, but I work in an industry where we handle medical supplies, and MANY of the production girls don't wash their hands. I even confronted one girl, and she RAN AWAY. They also don't flush the correct items even though there are signs in each stall in two languages.
I'm horrified.

As simple as this washing of hands with soap and use of sanitizer can save ones life while ignorance and carelessness can cause so much self inflicted danger and subsequently death

Thanks @dcrpto for the info.
My little daugher has cultivated the habit of washing her hands. This is a good habit.

@seyiodus.

A lot of people have heard that hot water kills germs. However, the water has to be hotter than that we're able to tolerate to the touch. This is why dishwashers get so hot that they'll melt certain plastics.
I also use hand sanitizer in my car after every public place I've gone into & touched things. But I don't think sanitizer should be a replacement for water & soap. Definitely always wash your hands before eating or touching your face.
I also always wipe my shopping cart at every store, all the way around because people pull their carts & push from the sides. This includes the sick kids that go with their parents.
