A Conversastion With Naval Admiral Mr. Sunil Lamba : Future of INDIAN SSBN ATTACK SUBMARINES AND FIGHTERS # Our OPinion

After the official arrival announcement of INS ARIHANTH for INDIAN NAVY, naval Admiral Mr. SUNIL LAMBA attended a press conference and answered a few selected questions. Here's how and why all in details below-

Q- How important is the complete deterrence of ARIHANTH ?
A- Mr. PRIME MINISTER said all about this. I cannot pass a single word on it. But what i can give you- Now we are fully capable with Second strike capability. Our (INDIAN DOCTRIN) policy of Nuclear weapon is NO FIRST USE. That's the reason behind we badly needed this second strike capability and Deterrence petrol for our waterline safety.

Q - CHINA’S NEVAL Ship and submarines are patrolling in Indian Ocean and the ratio is increasing Day by day. What Indian Defense and naval safety line thinking about this or how they are making plans for a counter strike?

A - Deployment of Indic Naval ships, Destroyer and frigates are live and working in Indian Ocean for last one year with a huge capability and working efficiency. Which are indivually based on different mission, one-for-one ratio. However, all the entry and exit point in Indian Ocean are under strict surveillance by Indian navy. Now a day, Indian navy operates a few more shipyard and strategic dock point out side of Indian water line in other countries. As an example you can take a note for strait of Malacca , gulf of Aden, Arabian sea and bay of Bengal. Our surveillance and consciousness is sent percent and with a strict module.

Q - Are we intercepting their movement?

A- As i said one- for-one, We intercept every single subs or destroyer or carrier in our area. Not only china's but every country. And the fun fact is, when a ship, sub or carrier entre inside our water line we first greet them from our command centre. As a result everything is under our microscope and bird’s eye view. Our naval funding is limited then china. They invest more money and manpower for their infra, port and obviously for the research and development. Which we can't right now. Firstly they made there naval base in DJIBOUTI south Africa, operating since 2008. We just started our foreign policy and making good healthy relationships with our neighbor countries. Do not forget we have a high level of limitations and obstacles and we have to bypass all for working together with other countries.

Q- What about the third aircraft carrier? How’s it's development and how long we would get to know about the commission?

A- It's under process and we are still working on it. What we have planned- this third carrier will be a 65,000 kilo tons carrier with diesel-electric engine. Carrier will be CATOBAR format like American frontal deck ships. Our target is 3 battle ship carriers within 2020.

Q- It's a rumor or official amendment that navy need 57 fighter for itself and they already made a tender for it ? Does it make any alter effect for the Rafale deal ?

A- The deal will finish till end of 2019, and we, army or air force has no connections with politics. We need our birds and that's final. We are out of all controversy.

Q- Indian navy is always first in race under the MAKE IN INDIA policy. But what about the private ship yards?

A- More then 200+ ships are already made past few years under the schemes, from the defense ship to carrier anything we make. Right now ship development and shipping infra business is under quite financial disorder globally. Yet, we need more private shipping companies for faster delivery and deployment. Reliance would take the advantage with their manpower and ability.

Q- How good is our own private sector shipping companies rather then government org's for the submarine development ? What do you think about mazagon dock limited company for this particular product ?

A- For mazagon, process is already done. Submarine specification drafting is also done and already sended to Defense council. We are hoping that naval LUH helicopter will be a private partnership product. Along with that, subs are also, yet we and council are working hard and faster for the clearance. Mazagon dock will take a big part for this game changing killer sub. And they have proved there efficiency for the order.

Q- Will you talk anything about minesweeper project ? Or the two under developed freights which are under goa shipyard?

A- For the GSL minesweeper, counsel will release an EXPRESS FOR INTEREST notice. In this case we have two options- Buying or taking a lease of two frigates from Russia directly as soon as possible and making more two in country under GSL. That's it.

Our Analysis:-

The entire interview and the way Mr. Admiral was talking that's quite interesting. He never said that we have more than one but gave the clue to get that Indian naval has more than 2/3 SSBN and those are fully operational. Because for the first questions by another TV channel reporter Admiral said -
"The PM has said it all and the only thing that I can say is that we have now demonstrated the sea vectors capability by doing the deterrence patrol. Our nuclear policy is of ‘no first use’ and the deterrence patrol has demonstrated that you have an assured second-strike capability.”

Now keep your eyes on this part - “i assured second-strike capability"
i assure you never ever spoken term if they have only one SSBN. Because everyone knows each and every submarines must has to come shipyard for the maintenance. It may written in paper by pen that this X sub is 15-20-30 years operational without any maintenance but that is just written. Each subs has to come within a given time. It's not necessary that sub always visit the main dock but it could come any undercover dock or under the mountain of the sea for foods or the gas or anything.
Now think logically- You have one and only X-ARIHANT sub and hypothetically that is under maintenance for 1 day. Your enemy get to know that and attacked with nuke. In that case you do not have any alternative option for the second strike. So you can only add this “I ASSURE“ term when you have alternative options where another one or more sub is operational underwater for the 365 days. May be third sub is still under trial but no one made any opinion about this. Quite possible. Because they are indic navy and they never disclose there actual fire or strike line up.

Secondly, 57 Rafael deal will be done at 2019 after the loksabha vote. Means- the rafael conspiracy is legit or not will be under microscope and ruling bjp party is fair enough that will win the game. Modi government is walking on cake with the major two deals. Internal politics and defense modernization. Because if they declare the deal is complete before the vote that would be more dangerous. And they are confirm and sanguine about the deal.
