It seems that across the planet there is a last-ditch attempt being made by anyone who supports the ideology of dominance over others to finally seize political power.
Autocrats are emerging in public with their faces uncovered for the first time en masse, and they are boasting of their hatreds.
Their blatant racism and unabashed calls for white-only purity have shattered the lip-service that hid the true depths of this serious problem of systemic tribalism and social inequality so clearly founded on deep racial prejudice.
Their emergence has jump-started the conversation about what it means when we actually stand for something.
Fortunately, even as the supremacists from the various hate camps rally on the words and deeds of their Dear Leaders, they are actually taking a literal beating by the better angels of our common nature and common sense of right and wrong.
I personally do not advocate fighting violence with more violence and would much rather see the civic action go in the direction it appears to be heading already...that is, towards peaceful celebrations at which the reiteration of the philosophy of inclusion and of the judgment-free love and concern for others that demonstrate our evolving humanity are loudly and repeatedly shouted abroad, but also as an intolerant, physically peaceful, in-your-face presence that basically just lets the supremacists know that they will have to account for their words and actions.
There is no place for hypocrisy and hate in the way we are changing our hearts and minds about what is truly important for a successful life.
There is always an element of the passionate resistance fighter in large populations.
Go far enough left and you will arrive at a place not too dissimilar from the far right.
They too have their story and their place in the conversation and the dynamic interface between the two camps.
Everyone needs to take stock of themselves now and choose a path forward or backward as dictated by their lights.
The choice facing everyone has been confused by a narrative that seeks to create a false equivalence between the radically divergent choices on offer to our changing society as to which way our world will go.
The philosophy of these opposing ideologies are not the same and would produce entirely different outcomes for many people, if not the whole world.
The contrasts have never been clearer even though so many people are confused and angry.
I, for one, would not be allowed to live in an alt-right society.
My sporting European ancestors commingled quite freely with a wide range of peoples and thus I have a bloodline that includes all but a few of the races found on the planet.
After generations of "admixturing", I am definitely a brown person.
My children have even more connections as their mother was a third generation Indian with links to Chinese relatives...which I did not have to add to the gene pool.
To be racist myself, I would have to go against who I am, my very being, my children, and all of my family that have come before.
Our ongoing, chaotic legacy of war should be enough to teach everyone the same lesson about where unregulated power over others leads.
We, as human beings, have always taken a stand against hatred, bigotry and the intolerance in others that would lead to the atrocities we all claim to abhor.
We stand up for fairness, justice, kindness, community and for our best human nature.
We believe everyone has a right not to be victimized for who they are and also to a safe and happy life.
There are innumerable examples from human history to be seen, heard and read about of how all attempts to oppress the human spirit are doomed to inevitable failure.
At least we should be able to agree "to believe the evidence of our eyes" and come to an understanding of what works for the good of all.
It is my opinion that if someone marches in support of an ideology that promotes racial segregation, separation and inevitable violence as a goal should they be successful in their bid for power, they, and everyone standing with them for whatever vague reason of support they manage to fabricate to justify their actions, are already on the wrong side of history.
It would be very scary indeed, if there were no counter-protesters challenging what the so-called alt-right ideology truly stands for in terms of a direct and destructive effect on the diversity of our civilization and the myriad people that represent it.
I will always stand for deeper understanding and greater humanity in our interaction with others.
Ignorance is not an excuse, it is a choice.
