Opinion: An Effective World Police

I came across a news report of how Sudans Military opened fire on protesting civilians, killing tens of them. While I don't follow the news nearly as much as before, I found this particularly interesting because of similar scenarios that have played out in the past.

The Sudanese government will not be the first, and unfortunately the last - government to open fire on its citizens. The problem is that there are often zero repercussions for such actions.

While I am in strong support of nations having sovereignty over their affairs, paradoxically, I see the need for some form of policing to prevent disasters such as this one.

It is unfortunate that with what we currently have, the people of Sudan are at the mercy of their Military. The two major World policing bodies today are either ineffective or in no position to prevent such disasters.

I'd say for such policing to be effective, it has to be a little closer to home. There should be regional bodies powerful and of fairly decent integrity to prevent Mad cravings of dictators.

Then again, such things may already exist as we speak, to little or no effect.

One world government with absolute monopoly on legal violence will solve these national problems.

No it wouldn't. That will be paramount to Authoritarianism

Who would stop the world police from opening fire on civilians, or overthrowing countries as it saw fit?
