How Bad Is The Air Pollution In Your City?

in blog •  6 years ago

Air pollution is a topic of debate these days and rightly so. Many major cities in the world are facing this problem and the severity of this issue is quite high in India. Many cities in the Northern part of the country are polluted in many ways and the air pollution is perhaps the worst of them all.

I used to live in Delhi before and when I moved back I was relieved to say the least. Whenever I would travel into Delhi which is a couple of times in a year usually I always get a scratchy throat or find it a bit difficult to breathe.

It's not to say that my hometown isn't polluted but not nearly as Delhi and the difference in air quality is noticeable once you are off the aircraft and into the streets of nation's capital.

So I googled for the air quality of my hometown, Mangalore and came up with the following results from AirVisual.com which shows that the air quality is moderate. I went searching for a few random cities but haven't found one with clean air just yet.

Perhaps the data isn't available for remote areas such as Leh in J&K state for example. But if you know any app that shows more accurate results or results for a large number of cities of all different sizes please let me know.

We live on the same planet and there's no escaping it. It's crazy how little we are doing collectively as a race to prevent the destruction of the very resources that we need to live on. We need clean air to breathe and survive at our best and it seems getting polluted rather quickly.

I've lived in Delhi, Noida and Gurgaon (Gurugram) in the past and I'm glad I moved out looking at the high levels of pollution and chaos. But I think it's only a matter of time before this situation catches up to smaller cities as people migrate and industries come up to cater to demands of a growing population which hasn't exercised any restraint.

Moving on, how bad is the pollution in your city? Pull up some results and post in the comments below.

I know Chennai is also not a great place. I was surprised to not see it on the top 20 list. I guess we need more trees and have to move towards renewable energy sources. Nobody understands the importance of trees.

It's crazy. But better than New Delhi i guess. But no one cares in our country.

Everybody talking about the problem. But What is the solution? Being a Indian I am feeling sad.

Well, the solution is first to stop burning everything from leaves to plastic. Unfortunately, it looks like most of the people dont care about this. The worst is you cannot blame people because the waste collection from state is completely corrupt. I learned some collectors don't get pay for months and live out with what people tip them.... I live in Bangalore and I am also sad about the situation.

I think the increasing of vehicles in urban citys are also the major factor. And you also talking about another problem of our country. Actually in our subconscious mind we all know what is the problem and what is the solution. The main problem is, lack of implementation of the solution.

Going vegan and living a sustainable minimalist lifestyle is what every individual can easily contribute to make a huge impact collectively.

That's terrible. Clean air is something a lot of Americans and Europeans take for granted. It is something that anarchists don't have a good way to provide. Government regulations and emissions testing is a pain in the ass but having clean air is worth it. When you step out of an airport and breath the air in other countries then you appreciate all those regulations.

Mine one is not too good
