We've Hit 1 Million Steem Account Registrations—What Next?

in blog •  6 years ago

Yesterday we’ve hit the 1 million mark for account registrations on the Steem blockchain. This is fantastic news indeed for all the users of this blockchain. However, there’s a lot of work cut out for Steemit Inc to speed up development and we cannot celebrate just yet.

Account number one million!

We’ve got a million accounts registered but as we all know, thousands of bot accounts and name squatting are likely to be the majority amongst those signup numbers. Real active users are just around 60K as per the data provided here!

But even with such low numbers (compared to other established social media platforms) Steemit.com is already one of the popular sites in the world serving many million views in terms of its monthly traffic and attracting over 250K visitors everyday.

Steem blockchain is averaging over 1.5 million transactions daily and that’s higher than any other currently operational blockchain technology out there. You can check https://blocktivity.info/ for more info. Steem is fast, zero fees and as a proof of concept it works great.

We’re 2 years into the product but it will be sometime before we see version. For many including myself Steem has changed our lives for the better. But many still consider SMTs and Communities to be the real game changers. However, there’s also the talk about GPT-Good Person Tokens and Oracle Enchanced SMTs.

You can read more about GPT here and here. But there are many questions on everyone’s mind. How will all this play out?

Personally this has elevated my excitement levels towards these new developments. Like many of you, I was hoping to see some of these things implemented by now. The wait has felt rather long no? But I suppose we'll see them once they are perfected. The latest communication gives a high-level overview of the Steem ecosystem.

Building a social media platform on a blockchain isn't child's play exactly so I'm sure we could all do with a bit more patience? Perhaps GPT, SMT and Communities will be the much needed fix? Who knows. These are some difficult questions that can only be answered in time. I've been around for about 2 years now so personally I will stick around, watch, participate and find out for myself.

I've also been an ardent advocate for the Steem blockchain, Steemit and other UIs on this blockchain protocol right from the start. I speak about the platform, blockchain and cryptocurrency wherever I go and whoever I meet. I'm proud to be using this platform and will continue recommending it to others.

Steem is a proof of concept with phenomenal potential and it has worked quite well over the past 2 years. There are a few competitors in development today but I believe Steem blockchain and apps built on it will still hold first mover advantage in this space. I would love to see the Steemit.com move out of beta with solid features and capability to scale.

As I close this post, the question on my mind is when can we see these developments coming our way? What are your thoughts on platform so far and where do you see it going? What are your expectations?

@firepower, i dont know of any person better than you to ask this question. Speaking of new users, I've convinced my mum to join steemit and she has registered with her email and gotten a verification link. However, the telephone sms verification just doesn't seem to come through. We've tried a number of tries but in vain. Was wondering if you knew something about this?

Someone said it might be a provider problem but we've tried with Vodafone and Airtel and both don't seem to work. Let me know if you know why!

Steemit's a/c creation processes have some issues. Once their system records a certain number/email you can't keep retrying.

In this case i would recommend opening her account via steem connect https://steemit.com/news/@timcliff/new-tool-from-busy-org-create-new-steem-blockchain-accounts-with-steemconnect

Later you can delegate 15SP to her account so it can transact properly and undelegate once her a/c reaches 15SP of her own.

Sounds good. I'll try it out. Really appreciate the help, thanks much!

We are on the right path. Main problem in my opinion is that we should have easier integration of new users...

truly THIS PLATFORM REALLY AMAZING AND THERE ARE SO MANY USERS WILL BE BENEFITS FOR THIS HUGE STEEMIT PLATFORM. thank YOU ALL OF YOU GUY'S.

Creating a social media platform on a block chain isn't exactly child's play, so I'm sure we could all do it with a little more patience? Maybe GPT, SMT and Communities will be the necessary solution? Who knows? Who knows? These are some difficult questions that can only be answered in time. I have been here for about 2 years now, so I will personally stay, watch, participate and discover it for myself.

Steemit is a great project, with great ideas, innovative, revolutionary, is a new way of relating, including the magic of technology, even when you do not understand how it works, you can enjoy its benefits, that reaches the million is a great advance, I am enjoying and learning from my journey in steemit, I am contributing and meeting wonderful people, the good thing is that the network advances with good foot and as time goes by, we can see the mistakes and apply the correctives, at least that I think can happen! In just two years we're doing well.

Hello @firepower
This is just a friendly notification that we are working on a project to add an additional dimension to STEEM. I have detailed some of the features in these two posts here:
https://steemit.com/steemhost/@dwarrilow2002/introduction-to-steemhost-com
https://steemit.com/steem/@dwarrilow2002/reasons-steem-will-be-usd100

There are two main thrusts to the site currently: to give steemians the ability to create an online magazine populated with their own posts as well as contributors; to increase both the ability to generate revenue for the "hosts" of the magazine as well as the visitors to their magazine by introducing advertising.

We are a couple of weeks away from the official roll out but I hope that it will be beneficial to the entire steem community.

This is great! I missed a chance to be the one millionth user. My account opened too late! I hope you will not mind my comment on your post!

Hi @erica005 Thanks for voting on part of my reference guide

We will be rolling out steemhost.com in about a week. Its purpose is to work with steemit.com and busy.org ... providing additional functions and a different direction for some steemians.

This page gives a little better understanding of what to expect:
https://steemit.com/steemhost/@dwarrilow2002/introduction-to-steemhost-com

I recognise that you have only been on steem a couple of days but I encourage you start posting. Last June I started posting and only earned about .001 per post. Eventually I was able to put in my 2 cents worth. I still only average about 30 cents per post but I am pretty boring, my jokes are tedious and I tend to stagger when I walk ... I am sure that you will become much more popular than I in no time.

Thank you very much @dwarrilow2002. Your comment is very encouraging for me. Definitely I will start posting soon. Thanks again.

yeah, it's a great news for steemens. i think within 2 years steemit will grow as other social media platform.

Wowwwwwwww I am so happy thisto isis reallyand a wonderful news.

Having 1,000,000 account is a really great achievement, we have really come a long way. But there is more to come

Hitting a million is really a goo news. I'm glad to be a part of this

Wow! This is Brilliant a milestone indeed.

Great news! I’m excited about the future of Steemit.. resteemed

What's next? A million bidbots.

tbh. I can't help but think on the same lines given some of the issues today.

1 million is a big number, we are happy to have reached that milestone, but only 60 thousand active accounts, what is the rest? This is our problem. I think we need a more practical solution to this, I have read @roundbeargames' article, he has a great idea, I think it will solve part of the problem.

Wow millions of users .This is really a great news .

One million users is a great milestone for the Blockchain. There is one thing about this GTP structure I’m having a hard time grasping. What would make GPT hold monetary value? What’s the incentive to buy & hold that gives any monetary reward?
I don’t grasp how the GPT rewards pool will hold and distribute monetary value.

Steemit.com is getting popular with every second. A few months no one knew about Steemit.com in our area but now a lot of youngsters becoming a part of this great organization.

WoW.....This is a very good news
congratulation man ... be continuous ...

Fantastic achievemnet.....👍

I do believe this as an Achievement but I also know that there are several Fake Profiles that are Active in Steemit plus there are several Dormant Profiles too.

I truly believe there should be a system to Curb out all these fake and Dormant Profiles.

True that. I'm not sure if that's entirely possible at a technical level without some kind of hardfork etc.

@firepower, Extraordinary, in every day there are so many who register in steemit, if I signed up for the first steemit release, I would be more successful, but I am very grateful to use steemit as a social media, this steemit is real for me, as a student at one university, , the steemit helped me, Steem On😍😍

I have a question... Is there any way to find out my account number? I am curious to find out how many accounts were back then
cheers @firepower

Good post, @firepower!

1 million users is a huge figure but it comes at a cost. Let me explain more with a question.

Which one is better - having a user base of a fraction of that figure but with excellent content, or 1 million users with below average content, spam and other unwanted material?

It is a great achievement but l think lots remains to be done. Hope Steemit emerges as one of the best sites in the future.

I just wrote about the same topic - in case anyone is interested:

=> 1 million Steemians! | How Many Are Active?

Iam not as versed about the technology behind Steem as many are including yourself. But Iam excited about the social media aspect of it with producing Content and blogging/vlogging. It really excites me and I think we are going to continue to grow for the better.

Thanks for this post @firepower
