What Angers You The Most In The Cryptocurrency Space?

in blog •  6 years ago

The crypto rally of 2017-2018 brought in a number of new users into this space. People who had never heard of anything like this before found a new business opportunity here as well as a new area for speculation.

While the bear market of 2018-2019 has cleansed up the market somewhat. But we're in a cycle and the bull-bear run phases keep happening.

Today, there's no dearth of scammers, governments trying to restrict use, ignorant people, etc. I mean I don't want to answer my own question completely in-depth but I've seen many angry people in crypto for various reasons. Some are simply angry for no reason at all as well.

What makes you angry about something, anything in this space? What is the single biggest grievance you have after entering the world of cryptocurrencies?

I'm curious to know what everyone here has to stay about this!

The scammers and hackers definitely top my list. This group has significantly delayed mass adoption and add fuel to those governments who want to heavily restrict or ban crypto altogether.

Also, those people who want to be in the crypto space for the profit but don’t want to learn about it so they expect you to do all the work for them. After being in crypto for almost four years now I realize why more people aren’t financially independent, must don’t want to do the work.

Bad Behavior

The fact that it's a market at all, when at best all of it is backend fintech projects. Even Bitcoin should really just be the protocol people use for setting up their own transaction infrastructure. Like HTTP or email. It's basically the open source version of Eftpos or VISA, wouldn't surprise me if Satoshi is actually an ex business banker or fintech developer or something like that who pieced together a transaction system along cryptography just different enough not to be immediately identified as a leak from some major bank. But the alts on top of that are mostly absolutely worthless and needless. And none of them deliver tbh. I've been watching this since 2013 or so, none of the alts from then do anything anymore, and that's the good ones that were worth remembering, for every one of those you had a dozen shitcoins that were never going to amount to anything and everyone knew it.

What's heartbreaking also is how badly STEEM is faring which after everything you might have against Ned or Steemit Inc or whatever it actually WORKS. We are right here using it right now, to communicate. Yes they talk about how SMTs are going to be a game changer, but already STEEM is a game changer. Yet no one cares at all, even the devs went on to make EOS even though they could work to make STEEM better. Quite sad really, that says more about people in general than the STEEM devs, who really did try and actually delivered something functional. Frankly it outs how much rank garbage the crypto space is when a functioning platform gets no attention and instead the next shitcoin is just around the corner promising people the moon and delivering nothing.

Trolls, XRP Army, Craig Wright, and the fact that people don’t understand that every exchange is unique and when there is a crazy price action on one exchange everybody bands together to freak out when this is a side effect of a free market and traders finding price discovery

Single biggest? - My own stupidity! - greed, fear, allowing myself to be sucked in, buying high, selling low. loosing keys etc, i think i have paid my tuition fees both in time and money, hopefully the next two years will pay dividends:)

The SEC and all global regulators who are blockin innovation and adoption. Unfair tax laws.
Steem moving towards Dapp economy, but still the reward pool is only linked to blogging only, thats an unfair advantage for Steemit.com

The scams. It takes away the legitimacy of the whole thing

The tribalists who think that crypto is a zero sum game, so they shill their chosen coin and bash all others. People that think that one crypto must win at the expense of all others are the worst, because they are so emotionally vested.

Tbh, I hate speculation . I want some real use-cases and products to come from crypto . I think this will change .

Firstly scammers of course but I think copy paste of projects are also make me angry if a project is running nicely why everyone wants to copy the concept and don't wanna show much more creative or intellectual ideas of new project...

I've been in the cryptocurrency space a very, very long time now.

Honestly, what really bugged me was the rise of poorly implemented/thought out KYC/AML solutions during the ICO gold rush. New investors/new players in the crypto market were (and are) effectively strong-armed into handing over their identity documents to unknown and unaccountable third parties in many cases, some of which were (and are!) scammers.

The other thing was how the ICO gold rush promised hundreds of fascinating usecases, and most of them have gone... Nowhere. The majority of the utility tokens I saw people hype over were dead in the water after 6 months, with all the capital nicely gone. So much fraud.

There are many other things, but a lot of it is basically just how scammy the space got, which really gave it a bad name and seriously fucked potential mainstream adoption up a bit. Like, we still don't have a realistic ePoS/wallet solution that just works...

Scammers and ignorant people combined, that ruins crypto's reputation.

What angers me the most is that each time I buy a coin, and hold it won't move but the moment I sell, it starts an all green rally. Like I bought veil coin at 0.13 two days ago thinking I've bought the dip last week, only for it to dip to 0.11 yesterday.. Its annoying
