In the family house of my parents, in the beautiful Masurian forests, there is a stone in honor of the right man, who, not afraid of his life, helped people in ordinary matters, but very valuable for residents.
Friedrich Seydel was born on September 23, 1836 in Chełchy - the property of his parents. He studied legal science in Bonn, Heidelberg, Königsberg and Berlin. Then he was a clerk in Gąbin (Gumbinnen, now Gusiew).
After his father's death, in 1859, he took over the Chełcha estate (Gut Chelchen)
In 1921, the Oleckie Agricultural Society (Landwirtschaftlichen Kreisverein Oletzko) was supposed to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the assumption, to commemorate in the forest east of Chełch (Chelchen Wald) a member who was known and respected not only in the Olecko but also widely outside.
The memory was captured on a nearly 3-meter-high granite obelisk bearing the inscription "Zum Andenken an Friedrich Seydel 1836- 1916" ("In memory of Friedrich Seydel 1836- 1916").
During hard times, a great and respected forester was doing for the sake of ordinary people without fear of consequences, improving their hard life and adding strength for a better tomorrow. He tried as hard as he could, to fulfill the simple dreams of his neighbors and not only.
