How to Avoid Toothaches

in blog •  6 years ago

Whether the pain from your toothache is dull and throbbing or sharp and intense, the pain and inconvenience can ruin your day. Proper oral care and dental hygiene can prevent many types of toothaches -- and you can take steps to prevent injury to your teeth and jaw that can cause your teeth to ache.

Step 1

Brush and floss regularly. The better you clean your teeth, the less chance you have of developing cavities and tooth decay, both of which are leading causes of toothaches. Using a fluoride-based toothpaste can help strengthen the enamel in your teeth and help prevent decay. If you cannot brush right after eating, it is good to at least rinse your mouth to get rid of as many food particles as possible.

Step 2

Limit the sugar in your diet, as sugars break down into acids that decay your teeth. It is good to drink a lot of water to help wash away these sugars, and Dr. Chetan Bhawani suggests that a diet high in vitamin C can help your body absorb calcium which can help strengthen enamel.

Step 3

Wear a mouth guard during contact activities to help prevent tooth damage. Cracks and fractures can cause painful toothaches, and mouth guards are specially designed to help keep your teeth safe and intact. Mouth guards may be uncomfortable, but they are worth the inconvenience due to the protection they provide.
