Psyho Thoughts - The Education System + Update

Hey everyone! I just wanted to begin this conversation by saying that I've been away for personal matters. I thought spending so much time on the platform, even though it was providing growth, was taking a toll on my mental health. To be quite honest, I was so consumed with steemit - planning out future post, and trying to find teens - some days I wasn't taking showers. And that's kind of a low for me, because I literally have nothing else to do from 4:00 pm-12:00 am. So now I think i'm gonna post here and there, but i'll certainly stay engaged with the community. And without further due... Psycho Thoughts!

So, what I thought I would talk about today is education and the system that governs it. I'm quite fascinated with the idea of being educated. Mostly because I don't ever wanna walk in a room, have an argument, and it be completely one sided-not in my favor. Don't get me wrong though, I love hearing other peoples intrinsic views on subjects they truly care for... I'd just rather spare myself of being incompetent. I see that on a daily, and trust me, incompetence is so cringy. I know by saying that the teen comes out of me, but what other word would describe it best?

Anyways, back to the real topic; education. I think it's obviously one of the core building blocks to anyone's intelligence. I'll probably discuss that in a later blog because I could write a paper on that alone. Nevertheless, education provides us with a since of meaning, a sense of responsibility, and the opportunities that make our lives great. But, with education being so important, why is its current state so terrible?

Going to the nontraditional school I am, I see what becomes of the general consensus when one has free will of learning or not. Since, there's literally only one teacher for four grades, and that teacher doesn't have the required education for general teaching - I might add that he specializes in Math and Biology, just not English, History, or any electives - it's increasingly hard to get the help we need. But even if we had the extra help, I still think a lot of kids wouldn't do their course work. In fact, three-fourths of the kids that have a choice of education, choose bliss zombie-like ignorance. Its quite sad, but then you begin to think why? Why are kids so painfully disturbed by the idea of learning?

In my opinion, it begins with the system. Ever since I started learning it's been boring. Half the time It just felt useless and unproductive. I'd rather talk to my friends, or eat, or do anything other then learn. I realize now that education is important, of course, but why was it so boring? The problem is that the education system fails to adapt to the growing adolescent population. The average student by GPA classifications is 2.0 or a "C." So that means the average person just glides through education without striving. I understand its hard to grasp peoples attention but the majority of people, or average people, only seem to care enough to barely pass. Now I haven't really discussed troubles with learning, and how the majority of the time you just don't get it. But then, that's where all the basic skills of education should play. Problem solving, patience, and attention. If you really have those down, i mean, everything becomes reachable and understandable.

And I don't think we apply enough meaningful real-life examples, that also correlate with identity types, to education. I mean truly, why do we learn the quadratic formula? Unless we're a mathematician or something related to the core field, what will we use it for? Well, we won't use it at all. But that's not what we're truly learning is it? It's the concept of taking tools, learning their core values, and solving problems, sometimes complex, with those tools. And if you explain that, education opens up a realm of teachings, and I mean life changing teachings, just from learning a simple math formula and how to use it; I believe it's one of the only ways to get us interested. I believe learning is only fun or in any case, required if it directly effects us . As well, being young, it's important to stimulate the brain with things other then our phones. Working the brain through adolescent periods only encourages development and healthy growth. Which is exactly what we need in this age of time. But we don't seem to care or realize this. And I partially blame it on the education system for not stressing this idea enough in its early teachings.
