CHETANNA: Yes, I am.

LAPE: Your name again please?

CHETANNA: Chetanna.

LAPE: Where're you from?

CHETANNA: Imo State?

LAPE: Do you have an english name?

CHETANNA: No Ma.

LAPE: Okay...

(Interview continues)

LAPE: Okay....Cheetaani right?

CHETANNA: ch - e - ta - nna

LAPE: I'll just call you Ana, easier to
pronounce, we could adopt it has
your english name, you know like
Anna.

CHETANNA: (faint smile)

LAPE: You speak well.

CHETANNA: Thank you.

LAPE: That's a great advantage, though I
know it's in an effort to impress me.

CHETANNA: No, I actually always speak this way.

LAPE: hmmm,
Honey, it's okay to try to impress
me, we all need to look better than
we actually are, so you don't fool
me.

(long pause...)

CHETANNA: I attended a not so cool
primary school, continued in a
less than awesome secondary
school. From my background I
guess you could choose to
believe I'm faking everything
about me. But here's the thing, I
decided to get better, at life, at
talking, acceptance and poise.
I'm sorry you don't see that.
And my name?
It's still Chetanna.
